MUSEMuseum University Student Educators
Outreach to the University
MUSE Program Planning
Offers a way for students to get involved that requires a shorter time commitment than either an internship or the docent program
Allows students to learn about art, and think creatively about how to create and market programs that will appeal to other university students
Programs reflect current exhibitions, and tie together a number of diverse interests and activities, keeping in mind the length and style of the events
During weekly meetings the MUSE group formulates ideas, carries out research, creates samples, divides up responsibilities, and discusses marketing
Outside of the weekly meetings the MUSEs conduct research, create posters and game materials, and prepare for presentations
MUSE Activities
Program Future
Reduction in Museum Nights events competes with goal of expanding programming
Friday Night Sites program offers a new venue, but the success of these evenings is still largely undetermined
PACE partnership will provide additional opportunities for programs and student involvement with the museum collections

Reaching Outside the Museum
PACE Program Basics
Eve and Rebecca will visit the PACE school to provide instruction on the Harn Museum collections and facilitate a related art-making activity
Students will visit the Harn to tour the exhibitions and continue art-making experience, building on the classroom visit
While at the museum, PACE students will interact with MUSEs, who will help them work to develop the culminating public event
MUSEs will act as mentors, providing an example of students close in age that are successful college students, and helping to teach valuable research and presentation skills
Each PACE student will choose one or two artworks from the collection to research throughout the program, and at the end she will present on that piece during a public event
During the same event, there will be an exhibition of the artwork created during the program, which will then travel to the PACE school for display
PACE Program Basics
The program will focus on interdisciplinary studies, and the museum staff will work closely with PACE instructors to incorporate learning into the basic school curriculum
It will help to build in arts education—there is currently no formal arts instruction at the school, although there are opportunities for creative expression
The PACE partnership will help to develop a lifelong interest in art and museum program attendance
Timeline: Program will begin in October and run through May, with students getting one classroom visit and one museum visit per month
