EX PM GORDON BROWN ACCUSES NEWSINTERNATIONAL OF ACCESSING PRIVATE
INFORMATION
EVIDENCE 1.
Former Prime Minister Gordon Brown accused News International
newspapers today of accessing private information about himself and his
family. He said he and his wife were "in tears" after being told by the Sun
that it was going to publish a story about their son's cystic fibrosis. Brown
said: "I just can't understand this - if I, with all the protection and all the
defences and all the security that a prime minister, (has), then what
about ordinary citizen? Mr Brown said he could not think of any legitimatemeans by which the Sun could have got hold of details of his four-month-old
son Fraser's cystic fibrosis in 2006. "They will have to explain
themselves," he told the BBC. "I can't think of any way that the medical
condition of a child can be put into the public arena legitimately unless the
doctor makes a statement or the family makes a statement. "I make no
claims, but the fact of the matter is that I had my bank accounts broken
into, I had my lawyers' files effectively blagged, my tax returns went
missing at one point.

EVIDENCE 2.
TABLOID EDITOR SACKED IN UK ROYAL FAMILY
PHONE-TAPPING SCANDAL
Charged: Clive Goodman, left. Telephone messages from Prince William
(right) to Prince Harry, middle, were among those allegedly intercepted
Senior News of the World journalist Clive Goodman was charged last night
over the Royal phone hacking scandal. The paper's 48-year-old royal editor
was charged with eight offences of unlawfully intercepting communicationsby access to telephone voicemail between January 3 and May 30 this year.
Private investigator Glenn Mulcaire, 35, was charged with the same offences.
The pair are also charged with conspiring to access telephone voicemail
messages.
The charges were announced as it emerged that Prince William's intimate
messages to his girlfriend Kate Middleton and brother Harry are believed to
have been intercepted. Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell, footballers and
showbusiness stars are all thought to have been targeted by eavesdroppers. While the scope of the (investigation) . voicemail messages involving the
Royal Family and their staff are still at its centre. In one message to his
brother, William mocked the South African accent of Harry's girlfriend
Chelsy Davy to reprimand him over his late-night antics in a lapdancing bar.
He told Harry: 'It's Chelsy. How could you? I see you had a lovely time
without me. But I miss you so much, you big ginger, and I want you to know I
love you.'

How A Murdered Schoolgirl's Hacked Voicemail May Cost
Murdoch His British Ambitions
Murdoch's paper The News of the World has been accused of hacking into the voicemail of
Milly Dowler, a 13-year-old schoolgirl who went missing in 2002. It was discovered later
that she was sexually assaulted then murdered. Allegedly, after the tabloid hacked into
Milly's voicemail, they then went onto delete messages when the mailbox became full. Not
only did they destroy evidence, including messages left in the time surrounding Milly's
disappearance, but when friends and relatives realized the mailbox was no longer full, theythought the schoolgirl may still be alive.
Here's why this matters for Murdoch:
The Milly Dowler murder trial only recently finished, and may be one of themost
prominent murder trialsin the last 10 years in the UK. The Dowler family are hugely
sympathetic victims.
All the major British broadsheet papers, evenThe Times of London(owned by
Murdoch), ran with the story on their front page. Prime Minister David Cameron has
said that if true, the hacking was a "truly dreadful act."
Rebekah Brooks, Murdoch's right-hand lady, was editor of the News of the World
at the time. This is the first time Brooks has been implicated in any phone-hacking
cases. Brooks is Chief Executive of News International, News Corp's British wing.
Murdoch is in the middle of the takeover of British satellite TV monopoly BSkyB, a
move already fraught with controversy. Attempts are now underway tohalt the
takeover.

Mob mistakes man for sex abuser
A mob has attacked the home of a man after mistaking him for one of the paedophiles
"named and shamed" by a Sunday newspaper. Iain Armstrong, 49, of Bradford, Greater
Manchester, was confronted by residents who thought he was a child abuser named by The
News of the World following of the murder of eight-year-old Sarah
Payne.
Police said a panic button had been installed in Mr Armstrong's house out
of fears for his safety. It was activated at 2100 GMT on Sunday after a
brick was thrown through the window of a neighbouring property.
The News of the World's decision to publish its list of known child
abusers has already been condemned amid fears it will encourage such
vigilante attacks on both convicted paedophiles and innocent people.
'Irresponsible reaction'
When police arrived at the man's house, they found a crowd of 12 women and children on
the street outside.
No one was arrested for the damage and the mob dispersed after being spoken to by
officers.
It was believed that the women thought Mr Armstrong was Peter Smith, 60, of
Warrington who was pictured in Sunday's The News of the World wearing a similar
neck brace.
Yesterday's incident
demonstrates how people
with no connections tothese stories can become

Phone hacking: Twitter campaign calls for
News Corp boycott (July 11th)
Thousands of online protestors usedFacebookandTwitterto urge others
not to buy The Sun, The Times, The Sunday Times or even to watch Sky.
One Facebook group called Boycott News International, which boasts nearly
8,000 members, insisted its members should refuse to buy the companys
newspaper titles. It added that cancelling subscriptions to Sky would also
send a clear message to the troubled 80-year-old chairman.
Meanwhile, a similar twitter campaign registered the domain name
boycottmurdoch.comyesterday, with the intention of creating a site to
bring anti-Murdoch campaigners together for effective action. Its home
page claimed the media moguls companies propagate a false image of the
world, exaggerate news stories, and spin an agenda which fits Murdochs
business interests.
