1 July 2019 Multiple District 105 Multiple District Lioness Chairman 2019 to 2021 - Sandie Briault Issue 29 July 2019 ioness Newsletter As I write my first message to you it hardly seems any time at all that I was elected Vice Chairman way back in February 2018. I have tried to attend and support events and Charters to get to know the Lionesses better. Sadly I start my term of office with the sad news that Thetford (Breckland) Lioness Club in E.A is closing at the end of June after 30 years of amazing service to their community. The good news is they have achieved their target of raising £4000 to support a Medical Dog, what a wonderful achievement Thetford Lionesses, we are very proud of everything you have done over the years and we will miss you so much. The Advisory Body will have had the June meeting and Changeover by the time you read this, and I am welcoming one new member to the committee Lioness Jennifer Manson from Chelmsford Lioness Club who I hope will enjoy her time on the Advisory Body serving the Multiple District of Lionesses and forming new friendships. The new Conference Committee are working very hard to make my first Conference a great success for all Lionesses and Guests to renew old friendships and make new friends. The venue is the Marks Tey Hotel Colchester very close to home for me and I am sure there will be a variety of speakers and Breakout sessions for all to enjoy. Do come along and support our Conference and remember it is our A.G.M. and your chance to have your say and participate in a variety of activities. I am looking forward to my visit to your club events and Charters to experience the different ways we do things but of course all reaching the same end result in serving our communities and very importantly having fun and enjoyment while doing so. One thing we Lionesses are so great at is looking after each other and this has been displayed very much over this last year. Our Past Chairman Jeanette had a difficult final year of office and we should all be proud of the way Lionesses worked together and helped Jeanette through a time in her life when she needed it the most. I feel very proud to be taking over from Jeanette as your new Chairman. She has been a very dedicated, hardworking Chairman who has filled us with such enthusiasm and knowledge for the future. These are very large boots to fill but I will do my very best for you all. Thank you Jeanette from myself and every Lioness for the fabulous 2 years you have given us and we wish you a slightly less hectic year ahead.

I have chosen YOUNG MiNDS as my charity for my term of Office as MDChairman. I feel young people of today are suffering more andmore with mental health issues due to the pressure of modernday living and there being very little help out there for schoolchildren and teenagers.Last year YOUNG MiNDS dealt with 13000 calls and e-mailsfrom Parents and Grandparents struggling to find help for their

Children of these 4000 received help from a medical practitioner. If we could raise some money for them it would go a long way to helpingsome of these young troubled people.

Immediate Past Chairman’s ReportFellow Lionesses and friends,By the time you are reading this newsletter I will have handed over the reins of MD105 Lioness Clubs toLioness Sandie Briault who will be our Chairman for the next two years and it gives me great pleasure tobe able to congratulate her on taking on the role as I know she will do a great job.In my final month as Chairman I am pleased to say I did manage to get out and about a bit and had avery enjoyable day as a guest of Sleaford Lioness Club when we celebrated their 30 years of service tothe Community.I also managed to attend the final meeting of District 105EA Lionesses which was hostedby Chelmsford and it was great to see so many Clubs all in one go.However at the time of writing this, it is unlikely I will get to my own Clubs AnniversaryLunch as I have been given a date of 28th June for my second shoulder operation so,unless it gets cancelled, I doubt I will be out of hospital and recovered enough to attendon the 30th June!My time as Chairman has most certainly had its highs and lows and I could go on foreverreminiscing but I think it is suffice to say the Lionesses of MD105 have a much more positive outlook nowthan we did two years ago and I am sure this will continue into the future – so thank you to each andevery member of the organisation because you all had an input and there is no doubt that “

are 30 years old and to celebrate they held a Sundaylunch at the Solo Bar and Restaurant in Sleaford. Lionesses attended from Swaffham, Pontefract, Witham, Saffron Walden andChelmsford. Lioness Suzanne Creedon a Charter member received a 30 years certificatefrom the Multiple District Chairman.

Grey skies to start the day and rain did not deterthe 38 teams of golfers who played in the sixthCharity Golf Day on Friday 7th June organised by

. The dayraised over £4000 for Cancer Research UK andThe Lincolnshire Emergency Blood Bikes Service(who transport essential medical items such as

blood, pathology, donor breast milk, medical notes and much more betweenhospitals and healthcare facilities). Two very worthwhile charities. Money will also be used to support localgroups and individuals.

The winners were Ken Squires, Nigel Prue, Dave Brownlow and JamesBrownlow with a score of 97.A BIG thankyou must go to all the many companies and individuals whogenerously sponsored holes and donated raffle prizes, and the generosity of38 teams who entered, as without them the day would not have been sosuccessful. have been involved sending black and dark bras. It has taken a longtime for them to arrive because Zimbabwe is currently in the double vice of rampant inflation and acutefuel shortages, meaning that transport and deliveries from other countries are even more problematic thanusual. Here are a few photos of the ladies choosing their bras. As youcan see, although the official line for teachers and othergovernment workers is that they must wear black underwear, there is a marked preference for the more brightly colouredones. In fact, one of these packages didn't go to thegovernment workers. These ladies live in a township calledRimuka, which is an extremely deprived suburb of Kadoma. They were distributed during a church meeting, and you'llnotice that the ladies even have their buckets for collectingwater from the public pump after they've attended theservices. This pump was paid for by Lions Clubs International,by the way, and it bears their logo. Finally, a few words from a Lioness’s cousin, Helen.

Thank you Lionesses for helping to improve the lives of women who have so little.

In May most of our time was taken up with our 1950’s Supper Danceand Grand Draw held at Stanley’s on 17th May in support of theHomeless. We had a very successful event, with lots of 50’s musicand a lovely dance demonstration by Andy and Sue from the JumpJive Club. Our Grand Raffle was drawn, and we thank all the localbusinesses who supported us by donating raffle prizes, and our LionsClub who donated the £100 first prize. In total we raised £1100, which was divided equally between St.Martins Housing and the Pottergate ARC, which is run by the Salvation Army. On 7th June wevisited St. Martins and the ARC in Norwich to present them with the two cheques, and were shownround the facilities which they provide for their clients. At St. Martins our donation will go towardsnew accommodation, and at the ARC drop-in centre, our donation will be used to upgrade theshower facilities.

On the social front, we “pigged out” at the Swaffham Lions SausageTasting evening held at The Station pub. It was a fun night out, tastingand attempting to identify 21 different kinds of sausages! On 6th Junewe attended the Region Lions Social, which was held at SwaffhamRugby Club. We enjoyed a lovely barbeque, andplayed a Frisbee Golf competition which ourLioness A team won! Our B team with DLC AngelaHoward won the booby prize (Frisbees!) and this

was followed by a fun Bingo Quiz. All in all we had a great evening. At our business meeting, District Lioness Chairman Angela presented ourPresident Anne Dryden with a Certificate of Appreciation for 25 years ofService as a Lioness.

joined in with Lions and Leos at the Vitality Mileoutside Buckingham Palace in aid of the Special Olympics. People of all agesand abilities took part, you did not need to do a 3 minute mile! It was afantastic atmosphere with lots of bemused tourists cheering us on and anamazing location for an event.

helped out at the Regional Disability Athletics event in Chelmsford.Clubs came from all over the region including Cambridge andNorfolk. We helped with the scoring and handing out medalsat the medal ceremony. However, it was a very windy day somost of our time was spent making sure all the score sheetsand medals didn't blow off the table! The standard ofathletics was brilliant and despite the occasional shower theyall had a brilliant time.

A few events which havebeen out and about to within the last few weeks:

We enjoyed attending, The LionsCharter, Sleaford Lioness Club 30thAnniversary, Felixstowe LionessClub Anniversary and a social visit to

Talliston House, Great Dunmow inEssex. We also held a cake stall which

raised £127.60 for local charities.
