Dont get me wrong, I am an Ali Fan through and through.

there is one thing about Ali that disturbs me more than any other thing he did.

That is

Muhammed Alis personal and denigrating actions against Joe Frazier.

Before you get to upset, Ive created a very positive post about Muhammad Ali called 2 Stuning DefenseMoves of Muhammad Ali Why his is the Greatest of All Time .

The irony of the these questions have been brought on, to a large extent, because of how Ali TreatiedFrazier out of the ring.

Mohammed AAli hurt Joe Frazier more outside of the ring than inside!

Mohammed Ali did many positive things in his life, but his major blunder was how he treated rival JoeFrazier.

What Ali did to Joe Frazier outside of the ring was absolutely unnecessary. His treatment ofJoe Frazier was so detrimental that Joes Family actually had threats against their life. Additionally Joes Children where threatened at school. Joe Jr. had to be constantly onguard because kids at school wanted to beat him up because they believed that his dad(Joe) was an Uncle Tom. Alis magnetism and believability was so high that when he saidsomething, it has permanent stickability.

This was absolutely the most denigrating thing that Ali could have done toJoe Frazier:Joe was smiling in front of the cameras, but Joe was hurting deeply.

Ali called Frazier an Uncle Tom repeatedly. He called him Ignorant.

He attacked his intelligence and his personality.

Muhammad Ali called Joe Frazier a Gorilla multiple times.

He even purchased a Gorilla doll. In public he would beat it and say, this is what Im going to do to Joe.

Ali, as an African American, knew how denigrating

the image of a gorilla was. If he didnt, he must have been

very naive.

But this is a contradiction in terms. Ive never thought of Ali as Naive.

He was very intelligent and knew what he was doing.

He made these attacks multiple times, in public.

I guess it would be one thing if these were private attacks.

But these were the most public attacks that ever could have been made on a person.

Ali was a person of phenomenal popularity. He was a person of immense personal magnetism!

Literally billions of people know Ali .

To make public denigrating play of Frazier, must have been the most hurtful of anything that Joe everexperienced.

Joe Frazier absolutely felt betrayed by Ali.

Why?Because, during the time that Ali was forced out of boxing because of his legal

issues of his opposition to the draft, Joe Frazier went to bat for Ali to help Ali

get his right to box back again. Additionally, Joe even lent Ali money when Ali

was not able to box.

Even after all that Joe Frazier did to help, Ali turned on him and absolutely

humiliated him publicly.

Ali fought Frazier 3 times. Frazier won the first. Ali won the last 2 fights.

The last fight, the Thilla in Manilla was the most brutal.

Much of this last fight was filled with absolute animosity!

If the fight were not stopped in the 14th round, it could have killed either one of them.

Ali won by Unanimous Decision. Both were badly beaten. At the end of the fight Ali said Joe Frazier is thegreatest boxer of all time, next to me

This was a bitter rivalry to the end.

Here are a couple of snapshots:

Friends brought Ali and Frazier together at the 2002 NBA All Star game.There are indications that they made their peace at the game. Joe embraced Muhammad.

They hugged for about 5 minutes. Muhammad broke down and Joe broke down.

Ali at Joe Fraziers FuneralAgain, I am an Ali Fan . But I am also A Joe Frazier Fan. They were both great!

A personal note:I realize that this post puts Ali in a very negative light. But if Ali did in fact apologize and make amendswith Frazier, perhaps this required more courage for Ali than any other thing that Ali did!

I admire Alis courage in standing up for many issues, but if Ali made amends with Frazier, this was thegreatest act of courage in Alis life!
