•Mudéjar art is a style that is native and unique to the history of Spain.

•It was a meeting point between Christianity and Islam.

•The term Mudéjar refers to the Muslims who continued to practice their religion and their customs in the territories that became part of the Christian dominions as the Reconquest of the Hispanic kingdoms advanced into southern Spain.

•It came into existence thanks to peaceful coexistence between three cultures: Christian, Muslim and Jewish.

•It combines the Gothic style with different decorative materials and elements.

•They use archs of gothic origin (pointed arch) and of islamic origin (horseshoe arch, pointed horseshoe arch and lobed arch).

•The most usual materials are: bricks in walls and pillars and the use of wood in ceilings (coffered ceilings).

•For decoration they used: tiles and plasterwork.

The Alcázar of Seville is a royal palace. Originally it was a Moorish fort.

The palace is one of the best remaining examples of Mudéjar architecture. The upper levels of the Alcázar are still used by the Royal Family as the official Seville residence and are administered

by the Patrimonio Nacional.

Mudéjar art symbolizes, among other things, that living together is possible for different races, cultures and religions. For centuries,

Christians, Moorish and Jewish could live together in the Iberian Peninsula, could

exchange knowledge, technique solutions, decorative styles, and give rise to a situation

where people helped each others and got very best results.
