Mere submission of the application does not qualify a candidate to be called for interview/test. 2. Call letters for interview/test are sent only to those candidates recommended by the departments. Interview/tests will normally be held within one month from the last date of submission of applications. 4. Employed persons should send their applications through proper channel with undertaking in the prescribed format given with the application form. 5. Separate applications to each department should be submitted if a candidate wishes to apply to more than one department. 6. Only photostat copies of all marksheets/grade cards, certificate of GATE qualification etc. should be sent. Originals will have to be produced at the time of interview/test. 7. Applications received after the last date will not be considered. 8. Applications completed in all respects superscribed on the cover “Application for MTech Programme in the Department of _________________” should be sent to the Head of the Concerned Department, IIT Guwahati, North Guwahati, Guwahati 781039, Assam, India to reach before the last date (18 th April, 2005). The Institute will not be responsible for postal delay in receiving the application. EXTRACTS FROM MTech REGULATIONS CATEGORIES OF STUDENTS : The Institute admits MTech students under the following categories: I) REGULAR (FULL -TIME) These are students who work full time for their MTech and receive Assistantships from the Institute or fellowship from any other recognised funding agency. II) SPONSORED (FULL-TIME) A candidate in this category is sponsored by a recognised R&D organisation, national institution, governmental organisation or industry for doing MTech in the Institute on a full time basis. He/She should have either a valid GATE score or atleast two years of working experience in the respective field. He/She will not receive any financial support from the Institute. Sponsorship letter (Form I) should be attached with the application. III) PROJECT STAFF This category refers to candidates who are presently working on sponsored projects in the Institute. The duration of the project at the time of admission should be at least 2 years. He/she should have either a valid GATE score or atleast two years experience in the relevant field. This category of students may be registered on a full time or part time basis. IV) PART - TIME This category refers to candidates who are local and professionally employed personnel (including the staff of IIT, Guwahati), who can attend classes at the Institute while employed. These candidates should be able to attend regular classes as per the schedule of the Institute. The applicant must be a regular employee of a recognised organisation with either a valid GATE score or atleast two years of experience at the time of admission and be engaged in professional work in the discipline in which admission is sought. No financial assistance will be provided by the Institute to such students. A No Objection Certificate from the Head of the Institution/ Organisation in which he/she is employed (Form II) must be enclosed at the time of application.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Students for admission to the MTech Programme In Engineering Departments must satisfy the following criteria : Computer Science & Engineering Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology or equivalent in an appropriate area or MSc (Computer Science/Information Technology) or MCA from a recognised Institution with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks and a valid GATE score in CS or IT. Electronics & Communication Engineering Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/ Electronics Engineering or Equivalent or MSc (Electronics) with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks and a valid GATE score in EC/EE. Mechanical Engineering Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology in an appropriate area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks and a valid GATE score in Mechanical Engineering. Civil Engineering Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology in an appropriate area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks and a valid GATE score in Civil Engineering. Chemical Engineering Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology in an appropriate area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks and a valid GATE score in Chemical Engineering. BTech pass/appeared candidates with a minimum CPI of 8 from any IIT may apply without a GATE score. Relaxation to SC/ST candidates Eligibility criteria are relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ST candidates. Sponsored Full-Time & Part-Time Candidates Candidates possessing any of the qualifications specified for regular candidates with or without GATE scores may apply for admission as (a) sponsored candidates (b) part-time candidates. They must have at least 2 years of experience in a relevant field. Reservation for SC/ST/PH candidates As per Govt. of India rules.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE (i) Admission to the MTech Programme of the Institute will normally be in the month of July every year. (ii) Admission to all the categories of students is granted on the basis of GATE scores and/or an interview/admission test.

(iii) The applicants who have completed or are likely to complete all the examinations including the thesis oral examination, viva etc. of the qualifying degree by the date of admission to the programme may be considered for admission. However, if admitted, they have to produce the proof of passing the qualifying examination with requisite percentage of marks before commencement of the end semester examination of the first semester, failing which their admission is liable to be cancelled.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Regular students admitted to the MTech Programmes will be considered for assistantships, fellowships, tuition waiver, etc. subject to the following norms : (i) Students must have valid GATE score at the time of admission. (ii) Students receiving assistantship from the Institute or from any other funding agency will be required to perform academic duties assigned to them by the departments, as per rules in force from time to time. (iii) The continuation of the assistantship/ fellowship will be subject to satisfactory performance of the duties assigned by the department and satisfactory progress in the postgraduate programme. (iv) Duration of MTech programme is two years (four semesters) and the financial assistance will be for a maximum period of 24 months. (v) No financial assistance from the Institute will be available to part time students. Project staff will get funding from project as per rules but will not get any additional assistance from the Institute. (vi) Only those students who are currently registered in the postgraduate programme shall be entitled to scholarships. The students on leave longer than that specified under the leave rules, and those who are not registered, are not entitled to scholarship/assistantship.
