Term One in Review Although a “short” term, it has been quite busy. Greg was appointed Head Coach for the Poomsae Team that represented Australia at the US Open in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is one of the biggest competitions in the World, and the Australian Team did quite well, winning one Gold, two Silver and eight Bronze medals. MTC results included a Bronze for Bronwyn in the Individual Final. At other International competitions Caroline Marton won a GOLD medal in sparring at the German Open. This is a very prestigious event, and Caroline became the first Australian to win a Gold medal ever at this competition. At the follow up event, the Dutch Open, younger brother Jack Marton won a Bronze medal, together with “brother in law” Safwan Kalil. Sister / wife Carmon made it to the quarter finals at both everts, but no medals this time. However, this holds all of our Knox branch members in good stead for the World Championships to be held in Mexico next month. Caroline, Jack and Carmen The World’s Greatest Shave event was held on the 17th March, together with the club sparring championships and the Victorian Sparring Championships at Box Hill Aqualink. Results from the Vics can be found on the TKD VIC website, but from the club Championships we had Zac Thaisen with a Silver medal, and Stephen Knott and Christian Thaisen with Bronze medals. The Shave event was a great success with Mrs Rose Choundhary from Dandenong branch doing the shaving and hair colouring. It was good to have a professional hairdresser doing all of this for the Leukaemia Foundation, and we raised several hundred dollars on the day. NEWSLETTER Doncaster Branch April 2013

Term One in Review

Although a “short” term, it has been quite busy. Greg was appointed Head Coach for the Poomsae Team that represented Australia at the US Open in Las Vegas, Nevada. Grading Results

Again, as it was a short term, the grading numbers were down, but it was a good standard. Any members who were “nearly” ready to grade should keep practicing over the holidays, as we will have another “mini” grading in week four. As it is an eleven week term almost all colour belt members should be planning to grade in term two.

Apologies to anyone we may have missed!

HAPPY EASTER!MTC would like to wish all members a happy Easter. We hope you have a safe and happy holiday, and come back in term two full of enthusiasm (and not too many chocolate eggs!)

Poomsae Victoria Training

Taekwondo Victoria have extended their training program for the State Poomsae team. While Mr Butterworth is still the “A Squad” coach, TVI have appointed several assistant coaches, including our own Grant Mason and Melissa Kenihan, as assistant coaches. Indeed, Grant has been appointed State Development Squad coach, and Melissa is now the TVI representative to the National Technical Committee.Any member that is interested in learning more about poomsae is welcome to attend these sessions, which are now being held in the David Perry Hall at Doncaster Secondary College (our normal training hall, not to be confused with the new stadium on Church Road!)Anyone interested in this squad is welcome to attend on the third Sunday of each month. More details available from Greg or Bronwyn at training.

Victorian Poomsae Championships

For the first time this event is being held at Doncaster, in the new school stadium on Church Road. If you wish to participate you need TA “Sports Membership” registration. Details on the TKD VIC website - http://www.tkdvic.com/

Greg’s 40th Anniversary. Term One also marked the 40th Anniversary of Greg joining MTC. Mr Rozinszky has been his instructor for all of that time. To mark the event Renee and Christina organised a dinner for some of the Black Belt members. It was a great night, and quite a few photos made it to the facebook page. This photo shows Greg & Bronwyn together with Mr and Mrs Rozinszky.

This dinner was held on Saturday March 2nd, then on Monday 4th March VICSPORT (department of Sport and Recreation) held their awards dinner at the MCG Members Dining room. This was a great event. Greg had been nominated as Victorian Coach of the Year. Although the award went to Craig Bellamy (Melbourne Storm Coach), Greg said he was honoured to have been nominated.
