1. Introduction CLC03069-311 is the latest version Real-time computer. The CLC03069-308 is obsolete and is no longer provided as a spare/replacement computer. The hardware differences between the two CLCs poses an important software constraint:

An ISO backup/ Installer of software made from the -308 computer will not readily work on the -311 computer.

However, a customer using -308 CLC can run their software on the latest -311 CLC by upgrading just the software version without having to re-compile the models or adjusting tuning parameters. This document provides a set of instructions to carry out this upgrade.

This upgrade is valid if:

You have -308 CLC running Control Loading Middleware version 3.6 or 3.8 You have Servo drives with CPI firmware version is 2.7x or above.(can be read from the label

on the drive)

This upgrade is not valid if:

You have -308 CLC running Control Loading Middleware version lower than 3.6 You have -308 CLC running Jetset software (Legacy Software) You have Servo drives with CPI firmware versions in the range of 1.xx (can be read from the

label on the drive)

If you find your system to be in the not valid criteria then contact moog aftermarket services to understand your options.

2. Instruction to upgrade the Middleware

2.1. Take a backup of the system prior to any changes.

a. Use a maintenance laptop to connect to the -308 CLC at eth0 port. b. Make sure that IP address of the laptop is in the same range as the -308 CLC. c. Use filezilla or any other ftp client to be able to download files. d. The credentials for using ftp is

e. Retrieve the ‘rt_app’ folder from the ‘home/appl/’ location in the CLC. f. This can be called as the “rt-app old”

2.2. Prepare the -311 CLC

g. Connect a monitor and keyboard to the -311 CLC and power it on. h. Verify that computer is booting into a pre-defined software load. i. Connect the maintenance laptop to the eth0 port of the CLC. j. The IP address of the CLC will most be 10.30.206.1. If not, the IP address can be found in the

home/appl/linux.cfg file. k. Open Google chrome on maintenance laptop and enter the IP address of the CLC. l. The GUI interface should now open up. Click on the ‘I’ button at the left corner. Verify that the you see

software version as 3.12. m. Now use filezilla start file transfer. The credentials for using ftp on this is

n. Navigate to home/appl/rt_app. o. Now copy all the files but except for

“ControloadingMiddleware” (shown in ‘red’ in the image) from the “rt_app old” that we retrieved from step 1 into this “rt_app” of the -311 CLC.

p. Reboot. You will notice that the computer boots but has few errors. This is fine as the drives are not connected yet.

2.3. Integrate the -311 CLC into the system:

q. If you have ethercat configuration, connect the first drive cable to the eth3 port of CLC.

r. If you have fnet configuration, connect the switch at the back of the CDB to the eth1 port of the CLC.

s. If you are using two switch configuration with fnet, then connect switch 1 to eth1 port and switch 2 to eth2 port.

t. Now reboot both the drives and then the CLC as well. u. The system should now successfully reboot. v. You must be able to use the maintenance laptop to open the GUI in google chrome. w. Engage the channels in test fixed, force loop, or test free modes. All these modes should successfully

work. x. Now put the system in simulation mode in the GUI and connect the host software at eth0. The system

should work like before.

After the successful integration of -311 CLC onto the system, make an Isoback of the system. This will be the new backup that can readily installed in any new -311 CLC.

3. Troubleshooting

After integrating the -311 CLC into the system. Make sure that you reboot the computer as well as the drives (through CDB). If the software does not detect the drives, then reboot the CLC alone once, this because the boot up time of drives is slower than the CLC.

Use the monitor that is connected to the computer to see what error messages are prompted. If you have Fnet drives with CPI firmware 2.70 or 2.72, then you might have to upgrade the drive to 2.74.

Contact moog aftermarket services to get instructions on who to perform those firmware upgrades. If unsolvable, retrieve the log file and some pictures, and communicate it to moog aftermarket services.
