11.0REPORT OF EXAMINATIONMAGNETIC PARTICLE EXAMINATION PROCEDURE 1.0SCOPE

This procedure covers the Magnetic Particle Examination requirements and acceptance standards for plate and weld of the ferromagnetic materials.

2.0APPLICABLE CODES

ASME B & PV Code Sect- 1. V, VIII Div. 18e Div. 2, ASME B31-1, latest Edition & Addenda and SN'T-TC-I A, Accepted Edition & Addenda.

3.0PERSONNEL QUALIFICATION

Personnel performing Magnetic Particle Examination to,this procedure shall be qualified and certified in accordance with Company's Written Practice.

4.0PROCEDURE

4.1Surface Conditioninga.Surface preparation by grinding or machining may be necessary where surface irregularities could mask indications due to discontinuities.

b.Prior to magnetic particle examination, the surface to be examined and all adjacent areas within at least 1 inch ( 25 mm ) shall be dry and free of all dirt, grease, lint, scale, welding flux and spatter, oil, or other extraneous matter that could interfere with the examination.

c.If coating are left on the part in the area being examined, it must be demonstrated than indications can be detected through the existing maximum coating thickness applied.

d-When coatings are applied temporarily to uncoated surfaces only amounts sufficient to enhance particle contrast, it must be demonstrated that indications can be detected through the enchancement coating.

4.2Method of Examination

Examination shall be done by the continuous method, that is, the magnetizing current remains on while the examination medium is being applied and while excess of the examination medium is being removed. AC Yoke technique shall only be applied to detect discontinuities that are open to the surface of the part. The AC Yoke to be used shall meet the requirement of T-762 of ASME Section V.4.3Apparatus

AC Yoke:Magnaflux Y6 or equivalent

4.4Examination Medium

The finely divided ferromagnetic particles used for the examination shall meet the following requirements.

4.4.1 Particle Types. The particles shall be treated to impart color them (non fluorescent pigments) in order to make them highly visible (contrasting) against the background of the surface being examined.4.4.2 Particles.Wet particles, including wet particle suspension vehicles, and panicles concentrations shall be in accordance with SE-709 of ASME Section V. 4.4 3 Temperature Limitations.Particle shall be used within temperature range limitation set by the manufacturer. Alternative, particles' may be used outside the manufacturer's recommendations providing the procedure is qualified in accordance with Article 1, T- 150 of ASME Section V.

DRY & WET METHODMANUFACTURETRAND NAME White Contrast Magnaflux WCP-MCP-2, Visible Magnaflux 7HF, 4.5Magnetic Particle Field Indicator

T To verify the adequacy or direction of magnetizing field strength, Pie-shaped Magnetic Particle Field Indicator or Artificial Flaw Shims as described in Figure I may be used by positioning the indicator on the surface of part to be examined.

4.6Direction of Magnetizing

At least two separate examination shall be performed on each area. During the second examination, the lines of magnetic flux shall be approximately perpendicular to those used during the first examination. A different technique for magnetization may be used for the second examination.4.7Examination Coverage

AU examinations shall be conducted with sufficient overlap to assure 100% coverage at the required sensitivity.

FIGURE 1 PIE-SHAPED MAGNETIC PARTICLE FIELD INDICATOR 4.8Magnetizing Technique

AC electromagnetic yokes, as shown in Par 4.2 shall be used for magnetizing technique. The lifting power of the yoke as per par. 4.2 at the maximum pole spacing that will be used shall be checked prior to examination or shall be checked at least once a year or whenever a yoke has been damaged. ,

4.9Interpretafion Nonfluorescent ParticlesWith non fluorescent particle, the examination is performed using visible light. A minimum light intensity of 100 fc ( 1000 Lx) is required to ensure adequate sensitivity during the examination and evaluation of indications. The light source, technique used, and light level verification is required to be demonstrated one time, documented, and maintained on file.

5.0EVALUATION OF INDICATIONS

Indications will be revealed by retention of magnetic particles. All such indications are not necessarily imperfection, however, since excessive surface roughness, magnetic permeability variations such as at the edge of heat affected zones, etc., may produce similar indications. An indication of an imperfection may be larger than the imperfection that causes it: however, the size of the indication is the basis for acceptance evaluation. Only indications which have any dimension greater than 1/16 inches (1.5 mm) shall be considered relevant.a.A linear indication is one having a length greater than three times of the width.

b.A rounded indication is one of circular or elliptical shape with a length equal to or less than three times of its width.

c.Any questionable or doubtful indications shall be re-examined to determine whether or not they are relevant.

6.0ACCEPTANCE STANDARDS

These acceptance standards shall apply unless other more restrictive standards are specified for specific materials or application. All surfaces to be examined shall be free ofa. Relevant linear indicationsb.Relevant rounded indications greater than 3/ 16 inches(5 mm)

c.Four or more relevant rounded indications in a line separated by 1/ 16 inches (l.5 mm ), or less ( edge to edge )

7.0EXAMINATION OF AREAS FROM WHICH IMPERFECTION HAVE BEEN REMOVED

The area in which the defect has been removed (prior to making weld repairs) shall be re-examined in accordance with this procedure to ensure that the defect has been removed or reduced to acceptably sized imperfection.

8.0RE-EXAMINATION OF REPAIRED AREA

After the weld is completed and the surface has been smoothly finished, the re-examination of repaired area shall be performed in accordance with this procedure.

9.0POST EXAMINATION CLEANING

Post examination cleaning shall be conducted as soon as practical using a process that does not adversely affect the part.

10.0DEMAGNETIZATION

Demagnetization following examination is required when residual magnetismthe pancould interfere with subsequent processes or usage.11.0REPORT OF EXAMINATIONThe following items shall be described in the attached report of examination.a.Name of parts or weld joint number examined.
