4-Feb-2014 Sx9 – 50.1
Winds were predominantly from the SE direction at an average wind speed of 3.9 m/s. As MOC is situated NW from the Sx9 monitor and downwind from the elevated dust levels, it is considered that the elevated PM10 24hr average is not attributable to MOC.
24-Jun-2014 #Sx10 – 61.4 Sx14 – 53.5
Winds were predominantly from the NW direction a strong average wind speed of 6.71 m/s. It was not possible to estimate a site contribution as the upwind TEOM (Sx8) and Sx14 were not working due to a scheduled Energy Australia power outage. On this day the E&C Manager visually inspected dust around the mine site and observed a significant amount of dust coming from Ravensworth mine. Upon investigation it was determined that Ravensworth had an area of recently seeded rehabilitation which was losing topsoil due to the high winds on this day.

Appendix H: MOC 2014 Community Complaints Summary
Date Time Site Nature of Complaint Company Response
6/01/2014 7:15 Glendell Noise
Glendell received a noise complaint via email in regards to noise between 7:15am and 7:40am with specific reference being made to dozer noise at this time. The complaint email was also sent to the Department of Planning and Infrastructure (DP&I). Upon receiving the complaint, Glendell investigated any current activities that may have been contributing to elevated noise levels in Camberwell Village. As the complaint was not received until more than an hour after the indicated time of high noise, it was difficult to pin point what may have caused this. A response was sent to the DP&I detailing noise levels, alarms received and action taken at the time of the complaint.

A resident of Camberwell Village contacted the Environmental Hotline at 07:43 am on Thursday 17 April 2014 with the following complaint "There is a large amount of machinery noise coming from the mine. Caller advised that the noise started at 6 pm the previous night". Noise alarms from SX12 were received at 4:30 and between 5:25 and 6:55 am however, the Mine Manager was in the village during this time and the highway was the predominant noise with minimal mining noise was audible. Glendell began shutting equipment down earlier that morning however, the noise alarms continued so the equipment was recommenced. During the early morning noise alarms, Glendell was on shift change and the noise alarms continued. The Mine Manager visited the Village at 5:15 and the E&C Manager assessed the noise levels from the Village, arriving 10 seconds before the complaint. The noise continued to be sporadic with times the mine was inaudible and other times a dozer was audible. Equipment was shut down and noise was confirmed to be the excavator floor dozer. However, by this time the noise had become faint and no longer an issue. E&C Manager and Mine Manager left the area at 8:45 am.

26/04/2014 8:33 Glendell Noise
Complainant called the Glendell hotline at 8:30 and left no other details apart from making a noise complaint. Inspection of the work area was conducted by the OCE and the tracked dozer was shut down and replaced with a grader. Investigation into the complaint found the following: - Sx 12 alarms were received from 5:55 through to 8:40, including through crib break when all machinery was shut down. Indicating that other noise sources were contributing to noise levels in Camberwell village. - A temperature inversion was present in the region during the period. - The noise rose from 8-8:30 indicates that Glendell mine was contributing to noise levels, however other sources to the south east and west/ southwest of the operation were also significantly contributing to noise levels. -Review of the noise recording from Sx12 during the period of the complaint indicated that dozer track slap and other general mine noise was audible during the period. Other noise sources identified included highway traffic, livestock and train traffic.
10/05/2014 8:19 Glendell Noise
Complainant contacted the hotline about noise from Glendell Mine. Glendell personnel was already positioned in Camberwell village monitoring noise, while trucks and excavator noise was audible the highway was the dominant noise source. Upon receiving the complaint operations were shut down in the Barrett Pit immediately. Alarms from Camberwell monitor were still received up until 8:45am despite equipment being shut down. Noise files and alarms were reviewed and it was determined that mining noise was audible throughout the period. However Highway and train noise appear to be the dominant noise sources during that time. On a number of occasions throughout the period when the Barrett pit was not operating alarms from Sx12 were still being received, indicating that external sources were influencing the alarms being received.

A complaint was made to the DP&E at 7:00am. No immediate actions were taken as the complaint was received at 9:05am. In response to the alarms, The OCE organised for the step up supervisor to drive to the Village at around 5:15 am for 30 minutes. The Mine Manager stopped into the Village around 5:45 and stayed there until shift change around 6 am. The E&C Officer stopped into the Village around 7:30 am. The E&C Officer stopped into the Village at 7:45 am and left at 8:10 am. It was noted by all that visited the area in the morning that trucks from Glendell could be intermittently heard, however, not at levels that would necessitate changes. The highway was definitely the louder source of noise, trains and train horns were also audible in the Village, while neighbouring mining operations were also audible at times. From the EnvMet model a strong temperature inversion was present this morning. In response to the expected conditions, the tracked dozers were removed from the elevated dumps and under the excavator and replaced with the wheeled dozers prior to the morning period. As well as this, alarms were received during shift change at Glendell, when no machinery was operating. This indicates that other sources were contributing to the sound levels in Camberwell village.

As a result the entire dozer fleet was shut down for 45 minutes. In this time noise alarms continued to be received. Dozers were brought back to work one by one in lower areas to determine which machines were contributing most to the noise heard in Camberwell. Constant communication between the Step up Supervisor in the village and the OCE was had as the dozers were restarted.
23/05/2014 8:00 Glendell Noise
Complaint was received via the hotline. The E&C Coordinator was in Camberwell Village at the time of the complaint to monitor noise levels in response to noise alarms received during the morning. At the time noise did not seem to be excessive and there were a number or other contributing noise sources including the highway and dozer noise from surrounding operations. Glendell was audible at times of low traffic noise from the New England Highway. Noise may have been exacerbated during the morning as a temperature inversion was present until it lifted at approximately 9am (based on EnvMet modelling).
