SOCIAL CONCERNS ANNUAL CHRISTMAS FOOD BASKET DRIVE

Please sponsor an en re family, or however much you can afford, for a generous Christmas Food basket at $40.00 per family. The Basket will include everything necessary for a beau ful holiday dinner. We also accept any dona ons of turkeys, hams, and other holiday good-ies, and canned goods. We greatly appreciate that you check your cans and eliminate all outdated, rusted, or dented cans. If you would like to sponsor a whole family for a Christ-mas food basket and Christmas gifts for the children, please contact Carmen Parra, Social Concerns 760-547-0708 for details. Donations can be dropped off directly to the Social Concerns Department in the Loretto House, across from the St. Francis Hall during normal Parish business hours. Thank you so much for your generosity!

RCIA SPONSORS NEEDED

The Rite of Chris an Ini a on for Adults (RCIA) pro-vides the inspira on and structure for how a community ministers to someone who sets out on the path that leads to ini a on into the body of Christ and the Church. The RCIA teaches us that the en re community is respon-sible for the forma on and the welcome of new mem-bers. It’s quite difficult for an en re community to en-gage an individual in a personal rela onship that can effec vely support, guide and challenge. That’s why the role of a Sponsor is so important. A Sponsor is a link to the community, a companion along the way, a mentor and a person of prayer offering spiritual support. This is a beau ful way to evangelize and build our Church. If you are interested in becoming a Sponsor, please contact Sharon Montano at [email protected].

FROM THE PASTOR…

Advent is the season when we prepare for Christ coming to us as a baby. The images are powerful and meless. An innocent child is about to be born. A child who will forever change history and the des ny of every human being who comes to know and love him. That longing for Christ’s coming is twofold: at Christmas and at the second coming, the end of this age and the beginning of the reign of God for all me. The feelings we experience reach deep into our memories – families gathering togeth-er. Joyful expecta on of good food, good friends, presents. Journeys to take. Prepara ons to make. Food and gi s to buy. The sights and sounds burn bright in our memories. As good Stewards of the me the Lord has given us, it’s important to remember to take a few minutes to stop and make prepara ons for a more important holiday: our homecoming. Each day is one more step on our eternal journey with Christ, our Savior. Think about how you are going to spend Advent. You have twenty-five grace filled days that will either be a litany of stressful shopping, endless “to do” lists and strained checkbooks, or an oppor-tunity to deepen your rela onship with God through prayer and service to the poor and less fortunate. Jesus challenges us to set aside some me for prayer and reflec on. We contemplate the Incarna-

on, God’s great mystery, looking at our own hu-manity and sinfulness. Take a look at the page #4 and the back page of this week’s bulle n for more informa on about opportuni es for Reconcilia on this Advent Season. I can’t think of a be er way to begin preparing for Christmas. Know that you and your families are in my pray-ers as we get ready for this challenging and fes ve season. Fr. David Gaa, OFM

Yo u A r e I n v i t e d t o L i v e a Holier Life….

The purpose of the Sacrament of Reconcilia on is to give us an opportunity to experience and know Christ. In this sacrament, we sit down for a few mo-ments with a priest and express our human faults and sins. We reach out to God, and he touches and heals us in return. What a wonderful way to begin our prepara ons for Christmas!

When you join us on Thursday, December 4th at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 4th at 7:00 p.m.

or Saturday, December 6th or Saturday, December 6th at 10:00 a.m. at 10:00 a.m.

in the Serra Center for our in the Serra Center for our Advent Reconcilia on services,Advent Reconcilia on services,

take some me to prepare for the sacrament. It starts long before you sit down with a priest. It begins with a quiet moment with God, examining your conscience, thinking about God’s ten com-mandments and the precepts of the Church. Make a firm commitment not to sin again. When you sit down with the priest, you don’t need to tell him the story of the sin. Just tell what you’ve done and how many mes. An example would be: “I’ve stolen from my job ten mes. I’ve taken the name of the Lord in vain. I’ve skipped Mass.” Then listen carefully to the words of the priest and the penance he assigns. Lis-ten to the words of absolu on. They are the healing balm and mercy given to you by our Lord, Jesus Christ. May the Lord bless you and your families as we journey together into the season of Advent.

Fr. David Gaa, OFM—Pastor

No he asis do a Misa.” Padre David Gaa, OFM—Pastor
