 MASTERS OF SCIENCE IN GENETIC COUNSELING PROGRAM CALL FOR APPLICATIONS (2014-2015) The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) will provide scholarship grants to ten (10) qualified Masters of Science in Genetic Counseling applicants. The scholarships shall provide impetus to the genetic counseling program and respond to the need for genetic counselors to be fielded in 17 regions of the country. These genetic counselors will be part of the management team of Newborn Screening-Long Term Follow up Clinics (NBS-LTFCs) which has  been set- up by the middle of 2014 as initial plan to strengthen the treatment and referral network and ensure capable management of patients identified in newborn screening. Successful applicants to the program may be considered for the DOST Scholarship. Below are the details of the Master of Science in Genetic Counseling Program and DOST Scholarships criteria for applicants. 1. MS Genetic Counseling Program is a two- year degree program under the Department of Pediatrics, College of Medicine that prepares students to become competent genetic counselors who will serve a vital role in the access, delivery, and expansion of medical genetics in the country.  2. Following are the general requirements for MSGC Program: a. An original and a photocopy of the application form (2 pages)  b. An original and two (2) photocopies of Official (Original) Transcript of Records c. A Certified True Copy and one (1) photocopy of Diploma with the University/ College seal and signature of the registrar in ink. d. Two (2) copies of Curriculum Vitae e. Two (2) complete and signed Recommendations (forms provided in the Application Packet). The sealed envelope must be address to: THE DIRECTOR, NGOHS f. Photocopy of Birth Certificate g. Photocopy of Marriage Contract for married female applicants h. An Essay on an 8 1/2 ‘’’x 11 sheet of paper describing your motivation for pursuing graduate study and your view of self- directed learning as a description of your research interest. i. A photocopy of PRC License / Certificate (for MRS, MRS-SP, MS Dentistry and MA in Nursing Applicants)  j. A dissertation proposal abstract and published creative works (for PhD Nursing Applicants) k. An original and one (1) photocopy of official receipt of application fee 3. Deadline of submission of applications and requirements is on July 24, 2014. 4. All required documents in original copies must be submit to: UP Manila National Graduate Office for the Health Sciences (NGOHS) Padre Faura corner Ma.     Master of Science in Genetic Counseling

    1. CRITERIA OF ELIGIBILITY The applicant must:

    not be more than 45 years old

    be a Filipino citizen

    be of good moral character

    be in good health condition

    have passed the admission requirements for graduate studies at any of the DOST identified institutions

    2. REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP Passed the basic criteria of eligibility

    Transcript of Records (GWA/GPA must be above 85% or better with no failing grades)

    Undergraduate course must be in line with MS Genetic Counseling

    Recommendation/Endorsement from head of institution

    Certificate of Admission from the Graduate School where the course is intended to be taken

    Career Plans 3. SCREENING AND NOMINATION

    documentary evaluation (70%)

    panel interview (30%)

    4. BENEFITS

    Stipend of PhP15,000 per month
