My dear Confreres,

HOLY WEEK: BENCHMARK FOR A CULTURE OF LIFE
My dear Confreres, ‘the week’ before the Easter is aptly named by the Church as the

existence are meaningfully celebrated. Through the

beyond space, time and extension. The existence that Jesus brings to us through his
passion, death and resurrection is such an existence, which has no end. Catholic
Theology teaches us that the more perfect a being is, the less the occupation of space.
St. Paul, in the 2nd Letter to the Corinthians, mentions about the kind of existence that
we would have after our physical, human death. He says: This body, in which we live, is
merely a tent; God is preparing a House for us in heaven. A tent gets torn away at the
wake of a heavy storm or breeze; but a house is built with strong foundation. It cannot
be destroyed. The welcome message is that we should not be stuck by immediate
satisfactions of the body; instead we should focus our attention on the eternal.
My dear Confreres, the tendencies of the modern world to get away from God and
Faith and to be stuck merely by the prowess of intellect and feeling are causing
catastrophic impact not only in the society at large, but in religious life in particular.
Some of the tendencies among religious and priests to live in tune with the standards of
the world consequently show off in anomalies regarding money, positions and
relationships. There is an alarming ratio of misappropriations of various levels referred
against the consecrated people too. The tendency to be stuck in the ‘here and now’
existence is extinguishing the sacredness of our consecration.
I pray and wish that we avail for ourselves a little bit of time during this Holy Week to
examine our consciences and to define the meaning of our existence. Let us encounter
Jesus in the sacrament of reconciliation; let us encounter Him on His way to Calvary; let us
encounter Him in His resurrection – the new life, beyond death and decay. YES, EASTER IS
A LIFE THAT IS WON THROUGH DEATH. LET US WELCOME THE CULTURE OF LIFE.
Meeting of the Convenors and Secretaries of Apostolic Communities
March 30, 2017 was set apart for the orientation of all the convenors and secretaries of
the Apostolic Communities. The meeting was animated by Rev. Fr. Benny Koottanal,
3
Provincial, which began at 09:00 am by invoking the blessings of the Lord. In the context
of decadence in the spirit and life of religious Fr. Provincial emphasized the thrust and
purpose of Apostolic Community Meetings (ACM) and its relevance. As a
constitutionally erected body it’s animators as a constitutional entity should promote
religious witness in all spheres of life. Quoting the MSFS constitutions, General Directory
and the Statutes Fr. Benny Koottanal, the Provincial, expressed some of the expectations
and the need for a specific programme for the ACM. Time was set apart for the
attendants to share and clarify matters concerning the ACM.
Discernments and Decisions in the Meeting
1. Apostolic Community meetings have to be convoked four times in a year (Once
in three months).
2. At the request of the Superior General or the Provincial, special Apostolic
Community Meetings may have to be convoked
3. Participation of all the members in the meeting is mandatory.
4. As mentioned in the Directory and the Statutes of our Province, the Secretary
shall intimate the members about the date and venue of the meeting.
5. Every Apostolic Community Meeting should have the following components:
a) Minutes of the Previous meeting
b) Study of a specific topic (Such as Encyclicals of the Popes, Documents
of the Church, Study materials proposed by the General or Provincial
Administrations. One of the members could make a study of the
material and present it to the community, about which a discussion or
sharing could follow.
c) Sharing of the happenings in the communities or any important
matter to be shared in the common gathering
d) One hour of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, wherein the
possibility of confession can be offered to the members
e) Common Meal.
My dear Confreres, I have convoked this meeting, knowing very well that the Apostolic
Communities are the forum wherein we can share our religious life in the most effective
way. In the wake of the modern, destructive tendencies, our communities and especially
Apostolic Communities must become forums that give us focus and orientation for our
religious life. I request all of you to collaborate with the Conveners and Secretaries and
to follow the suggestions and orientations for vibrant Apostolic Communities.
Bon Voyage
Fr. Dijo Koikkara will be leaving to the diocese of Harrisburg, USA for pastoral services
