(SOCIAL WORK PRACTICE EDUCATION)
About the course
The Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Professional Studies (Social Work Practice Education) is relevant for experienced social workers who want to
develop their knowledge and skill base in order to take on the Practice Education role with social work students on practice placements.
Candidates will be required to take on the practice educator role with a student social worker in order to complete the course. Each candidate will be nominated by their employing agency who will be required to arrange for an agency-based experienced Practice Teacher/Educator to assume an Agency Assessor role with
the candidate. This role will involve mentoring candidates, overseeing the placement from an agency perspective, observing supervision sessions and

will also be allocated a University-based personal tutor.

PG Diploma and then on to an MSc. It is possible for those who previously studied at SCQF Level 10 (Graduate Certificate) to undertake a portfolio (at Level 11) if they
wish to progress on to the Diploma.
PG Diploma (one year) Students can choose from a range of modules within the MSc framework in their second year of study, allowing them to build credit and relevant study towards a
Diploma in Applied Professional Studies.
MSc (normally one year) Students will attend group tutorials and receive online teaching on research methods. They
will be allocated a supervisor to support them to undertake an empirical study on a practice-relevant topic and to submit a 15,000-word dissertation.
