Our initial club logo was so old (“How old was it?”) that we just couldn’t use it anymore to promote our club in our newsletter, website, or elsewhere. April Meeting Recap: Erena Shimoda

Members and friends were spellbound by the beauty and emotion portrayed in Erena’s images and videos at our April 17th meeting. Focusing on the motto “You are a survivor for a reason”, she’s channeled her passion for the ocean and swimming by pioneering underwater transformative therapy. She does this to make her father proud; he passed away after a car accident that had severely traumatized Erena.

Cancer survivors feel better

with the freedom of being underwater. As part of her healing process, she volunteered for the American Cancer Society’s “Look Good Feel Better” program, reassuring others that there is beauty during and after cancer. By combining total immersion with portrait photography, she discovered a powerful therapy that can help people traumatized by physical disabilities, domestic violence, and PTSD. She says, “Water can heal the mind and spirit, so underwater is the only place where people don’t feel any pain, depression or loneliness.” The transformative effect of her underwater portraits helps to promote recovery, enable people to feel beautiful, and help them regain confidence.
