    MSc Management and InformationSystems: Scholarship for Study by DistanceLearning (Jan. 2012 start) The School of Environment and Development invites applications for a fully-fundedscholarship for candidates from developing countries for Master's study by distance learningon our MSc Management & Information Systems .

    The scholarship will cover all study costs including tuition and examining fees and coursematerial costs.

    MSc Management and Information Systems

    The MSc in M&IS develops the "hybrid" mix of management and information systems skillsthat we know from experience is essential to the successful and strategic application of information and communication technologies by today's organisations. It is designed to

    develop two groups of participants in developing and transitional economies: functionalmanagers who wish to take greater control over, and make a more direct contribution to,change in their organisations via the development and implementation of informationsystems; and information systems professionals who wish to improve the success rate of theinformation systems they develop or use, and who may also wish to upgrade their management skills and knowledge.

    The programme is offered by the Development Informatics Group in the Institute for Development Policy and Management (IDPM) , with staff members contributing to theUniversity's Centre for Development Informatics .

    Who studies on this programme?

    The MSc M&IS programme is available through distance learning so that practitioners canstudy while continuing to work in their ongoing professional roles, in the public, private andcivil society sectors, or in roles in international organisations, agencies or NGOs. Studentswork alongside their MSc study, and complete the programme part-time: typically in abouttwo-and-a-half years.

    The scholarships are intended to support students from developing countries who would nototherwise be able to study for a UK qualification. Applicants should:

    1. Applicants must not have previously studied abroad;2. Be a national of and resident in a developing country of Africa, Asia, the Caribbean,

    Latin America or Oceania;3. Have at least two years' work experience in a post relevant to their MSc M&IS

    studies;4. Hold a UK Second Class Honours, Upper Division, or above, or its international

    equivalent, in their Bachelor's degree. To verify the equivalency of internationalqualifications applicants should refer to information on the Universitys website at:http://www.manchester.ac.uk/international/country/

    Applicants must also not have previously studied in a developed country (short/languagecourses excluded).

    How to apply

    When applying for the MIS scholarship please follow all the steps outlined below:

    Step 1.

    Select the 'Apply online' link on this page. In the 'Further information' box on page four of your application, please state clearly ' MIS scholarhsip application '. Your application should

    include a completed online application form for your chosen MSc, two signed references, oneof which should be from your current employer, and scanned copies of your certificates.Please make sure that the mode of attendance that is selected on the application formstates " Distance Learning part time "

    Step 2.

    Instead of a 'Statement of Purpose', you must also include an original 500-word (maximum)statement with your application specifying how your selected MSc programme willcontribute to your professional and personal development.

    Step 3.

    Your statement must be included in your application and also e-mailed separately to:[email protected] . The title of your e-mail should be ' MIS Scholarshipapplication ' plus your name and seven-digit University of Manchester application number (this is generated when you submit your application form); for example: 'MIS Scholarshipapplication Sally Smith 2507949'.
