INTRODUCTION

Page 4: Msc 5

In the implementation of the curriculum, there are processes needed after it has been written and before it is accepted for final implementation. Pilot testing or field try out is one of the common practices of curriculum makers to determine the strength and the weaknesses of a written on planned curriculum. Likewise monitoring and evaluation of the curriculum are also important in the implementation.

Pilot testing or Field Try out

A process which gather empirical data to support whether the material or the curriculum is useful, relevant, reliable and valid.

It assures the teacher and the schools that indeed the curriculum materials are ready for use.

The Try-outsFirst try-out - > involved a small group of students who did various activities according to the procedure of the module under the guidance of the module writers.

Page 9: Msc 5

Second try-out -> done by the students, using a complete set of written materials from the advanced reading of the field works.

Third try-outs -> done with two groups, one group being the experimental group and the other group which is the control group.

CURRICULUM MONITORING

It is a periodic assessment and adjustment during the try out period.

Monitoring asks the questions:•How are we doing?•Is the curriculum accomplishing its intended purposes?

CURRICULUM EVALUATION

Refers to a systematic process of judging the value, effectiveness, and adequacy of a curriculum: it’s a process, product and setting which will lead to informed decision. It should be useful and systematic.

TWO WAYS OF CURRICULUM EVALUATION:

1.School-Based Evaluation (SBE) – Places the content, design, operation, and maintenance off evaluation procedure in the hands of the school personnel.

2.Accreditation- this is a voluntary process of submitting a curricular program to an external accrediting body for review in any level of education

4.) Graduation Requirements – Successful accomplishment of the curricular program of studies.

5.) Administrative Support for Effective Instruction – School administrator must be responsible in requiring a physical facilities like good classroom, libraries playground laboratory and study areas.
