ON HER KOGOD EXPERIENCE:“I chose Kogod because of American University’s reputation as a community-minded, green campus that practices what it teaches. Knowing that sustainability is a rapidly evolving field that will demand multi-disciplined professionals, I wanted to be sure I had a solid background in business management as well as environmental topics. In the future, I expect that my MSSM degree from Kogod will open many doors in emerging sustainability job markets and give employers confidence that I am well-prepared to handle any green business challenge they can throw at me.”
EMILY BILLHEIMER, MSSM ’14
FUTURE AMBITIONSTo become the mayor of a small town. “Mayors can influence local environmental policy more than anyone else. A city itself is an opportunity to create a holistic, sustainable setting, including public transit, bike lanes, pedestrian-friendly streets, and design that inspires people. I plan to work at the Mayor’s Institute on City Design, an arm of the American Architectural Foundation, to gain a better understanding of how cities will evolve in the future.”
WHY KOGOD?“I chose Kogod’s MSSM program because of its innovative interdisciplinary approach to studying sustainability management. You make the program what you want it to be, which is what attracted me to it over others with a more narrow approach.”
