Learning IntentionsWe are learning to identify and compare 2D and 3D shapes and their key features.
Success Criteria
I will be able to:
-Identify and compare everyday shapes and objects.-Name the features of the shapes or objects -Make and connect models of three-dimensional objects and describe key features.-Compare the size of shapes both regular and irregular.

Monday Introduction Write your answers down
-
Two-dimensional (2D) shapes are all around us. They are flat and occupy the two dimensions of
length and width. They have no depth.
They enclose an area of 2D space.
Learning Intention
Compare and describe two dimensional shapes that result from combining and splitting common shapes, with and
without the use of digital technologies.
Monday
-
Take a look around your environment, see if you can find these 2D shapes. Where do you see it? What is it?
Draw and label three other 2D shapes that you can see in your environment. Try and use a digital drawing tool.

Tuesday Introduction Write your answers
-
• A polygon is a 2D (flat) shape with 3 or more straight sides.• The word comes from the Greek words, poly (many) and gonia (angles).• A regular polygon has equal (the same) length sides and angles.• An irregular polygon has different length sides and angles.
Tuesday – 2D Polygons
These are all regular polygons

Purple GroupMatch each name with it’s 2D shape. You can use slide 5 to help you.
Blue Group Match each name with it’s 2D shape and describe the properties of each shape. For example a square has 4 corners and 4 sides.
Red GroupMatch each name with it’s 2D shape and describe the properties of each shape using as much detail as you can. Which of the shapes are polygons?
-
Tuesday ActivitiesRED: Use the dotted paper below in
the following slides to draw and label the following regular polygons:
a square, a hexagon, a pentagon, an octagon and a triangle. Try to use
your drawing tool.
You will notice that your shape can be divided equally into two parts. This is
called symmetry. Now give examples of symmetry
using the polygons you have drawn.
BLUE: Fill in the columns with the number of sides and corners of each shape.

Thursday– 3 Dimensional Objects (3D)
• A shape is 2D• An object is 3D.• A 2D shape has 2 dimensions, length and width.• A 3D object has 3 dimensions, length, width and depth (or height).• 3D shapes can be represented using a 2D net.
Learning intention: Connect three-dimensional objects with their nets and other two-dimensional representations
When we are describing 3D shapes we use the language of;Faces EdgesVertices(corners)

Friday Activity---------Students will design houses for a new street using shapes.
Rules
You can build a city, houses for your new street or just one home from shapes around the house. If you find it difficult to find lots of shapes, you can draw ½ your new street on paper in colour and build ½ from objects. - You can make Origami shapes to include in your buildings. - You can draw the scenery of the Houses using geometrical shapes. - You can use paint, coloured paper and any other items you think are suitable.
