Statement of the Problem & Proposal

Assumptions of the Study

Statement of the Thesis

Background & Urgency of the Problem

• Diarrhea is the second most common children disease in Myanmar.

• 21% of children dying of diarrhea.• Diarrhea is caused by water, food and

bacteria.• Most of the guardians are lack of health

knowledge..

In three week ,I’ll create 3 Burmese-English posters that show 6 steps for Burmese guardians can implement (Newman,1990,para1)how to reduce the at least 50% of diarrhea causes (Hansa,2012,para.2-4)in their children below 5 years old in 1 month.(Moe,2005,para.2)

•The Guardians from Yangon can follow(Rogers,1931) the 6 steps on the 3 posters to reduce the 50% of diarrhea causes(Hansa,2012,para. 2-4) in their children below 5 years old.(Moe ,2005,para .2) in a month.• A poster show Burmese guardians how to

prevent diarrhea disease in children.• Roger’s innovation diffusion theory can

help to give information and persuasion the steps of preventing diarrhea..

Using theory of health as praxis and innovation diffusion theory, Burmese guardians can implement the 6 steps on the 3 posters to prevent the 3 causes by water, food and bacteria of diarrhea in children below 5 years old.

The Utilization of Innovation Diffusion Theory to Prevent Diarrhea Disease in children from Yangon

G01 SHL1013 Professional English (11 December 2013)

Summary of the Theory

Theoretical Application

Proposed Poster Design

• The theory of health as praxis claimed that “the person recognizing that there is a change and incorporating that transformation which is essential to the expansion of that individual life”(Newman,1990).• The innovation diffusion theory claimed that “the process by which that innovation is that communicated through certain channels over time among the members of a social system”(Rogers, 1931

• In week 1, designing the poster stage, we use theory of health to introduce the disease and to cure and prevent the disease . ”(Newman,1990)

• In Week 2, Poster distribution stage, we can use the first and second stage of roger’s innovation diffusion theory. (Rogers, 1931)

• In week 3, the last stage of confirmation can implement to adopt or reject the steps. (Rogers, 1931)

Procedures

INITIATING - Check the possibility of the proposalDEFINING - Classify the probability of the proposalCOLLECTING- Collect data about the rate of diarrhea disease DRAFTING - Create a poster PLANNING - Look for the member who can be communicate with benefitctories PERSUASION - Select 10 guardians to give knowledge and persuade about the poster IMPLEMENTING – Post the posters with the board in top of each streetCHECKING – Check the improving of process by collecting data INVESTIGATEING- Investigate the data EVALUATING - Evaluate the result of process within three-weeks

Timeline & Implementation Strategy

• Week 1: Design and production of posters• Week 2: poster distribution and persuasion • Week 3: Implementation

• Ignorance – According Rogers’s Innovation Diffusion Theory, Burmese guardians may be ignored to implement new system. (Clark,1991,para.4).Solution- Using proper method

• Difficulty - According to Festinger’s Cognitive Dissonance Theory, burmese guardians may be opposed to change their behavioral. (McLeod,2008,para2.). Solution – Giving simple steps

Summary / Abstract This research proposal is created to concrete the diarrhoea disease among under 5 years old in Yangon, Myanmar. The plan will be introduced and proposed the solutions to prevent and overcome a least 50% cause of diarrhoea. As a methodology, I will use a A3 size poster to express my idea. My resaearch proposal will take 4 weeks to implement and I will run this proposal in holiday break in August 2014. I will start this proposal in my hometown, Yangon and I will collect data by surveying. I will instruct the Burmese guardians this proposal by using Theory of Health as Praxis(Newman,1990) in order to implement the solutions form poster. For this stage, Innovation Diffusion Theory(Roger,1931)will be applied. Burmese uneducated, poor and careless guardians can implement the 6 steps on the a poster to reduce at least 50% diarrhea causes in children below 5 years old in 1 month,2months and 3 months.
