1.0 PURPOSE

The purpose of this method statement is to outline the procedure for the

construction of duct bank under the existing storm water concrete culvert.

2.0 SCOPE OF WORK

The scope of work includes excavation, blinding, rebar fixing, conduit fixing,

formworks installation, supporting of existing culvert, concrete coating, and

backfilling.

3.0 WORK PROCEDURE

3.1 The basic principle for the construction of this duct bank is to do

the construction at one time with concrete masonry support at

intervals shown on the sketch, SK-DB-01 sht 1 & 2.

3.2 Excavate a portion below the culvert – Carry out manual excavation

under the existing culvert at location of the support. Excavation of

the second support location will proceed after the installation of the

first support.

3.3 Install temporary support for the culvert – Install temporary support for

the concrete culvert at locations shown on attached SBG sketch SK-

DB-01 sht 1 and 2. The support will be made of concrete masonry

blocks or concrete 100 mm thick as shown on the sketch. The

support will be at 9 locations shown on the sketch so that the

unsupported length of the culvert is only 900 mm. The concrete or

masonry block support will remain in place even after construction

of the duct bank.

3.4 Continue excavation – After installation of the supports, continue

excavation in between the support. This will be done by manual

excavation.
