Q. Tell us something about yourself. When and why did youenter in the competitive exam field?

First I would like to thank my parents for giving every thing I wantedtill today

I hail from a border town called pavagada , a backward region inKarnataka. Did my schooling there. And my BE(electronics &

communication) from SIT Tumkur.Though I was well settled in my life as I wasworking with INFOSYS, My uncle Dr srinivas naik wanted me to become civil servant.In 2009 aug one more person motivated me to go for it(who is too personnel to sharehere J )which motivated me to go for civil services. Then I did research about the jobprofile of civil services. I felt civil services is more diverse and it gives loads ofopportunity to give back to society. Then in 2011 I left my job to prepare to civils.

I dint follow any books. My regular following of current affairs helped in essay verymuch. Regarding Grammar and précis also no preparation from my side.

Essay/Descriptive paper

Q. How did you prepare the Essay, grammar, précis and report writing?

As I told earlier, I dint do specific preparation for easy. One should be ready to write asensible easy in the exam regarding any topic. Reading Magazine (comes with THEHINDU on every Sunday) and open ed page of hindu and Indian express helped me.Essay should be in simple language . Don’t use flowery and high sounding words!!!One should spent time for brainstorming to prepare a blueprint before starting essay.Try to connect link between paragraphs.

Q. In CAPF-2012 Exam, following essays were asked. Which essay did you writein and what keypoints did you include in it?

I wrote Emergence of regional parties and its effect on the federal structure ofIndia. I was able to generate many points with this topic. Gave example of TrinmoolCongress,DMK,etc. (West Bengal CM Cancelling bangla trip at the last min toembarrass PM was one among many eg i quoted)

Explained pros and cons of regional party. How it paid way to Coalition politics etc.

Q. In CAPF-2012, they asked counter-arguments for following, in 75 words.Please provide your answer.

I was scared about PET a lot as I was overweight and I could not run 100 mts with intime frame. But as they say practice makes man perfect! I practiced for some 20 daysand somehow cleared PET and it helped me to reduce weight also. I had to shed 7 kgs !

Q. What specific preparation did you do for the interview? Who was thechairman? Provide the list of questions asked in CAPF Interview. (and ifpossible, the answers as well). How was the overall interview experience? Andany tips for future aspirants.

My Interview was with Alka Madam board. I was the first candidate in the afternoonsession of last day!. Board was very friendly though they asked some tricky question.These are the following questions

1 . Why did you leave Infosys

2. Why you wanted to become AC

3. As I mentioned in my DAF form that my hobby is helping physically challengedpersons by writing their exam they asked me wat motivated me to become scribe.

4. Why farmers committing suicides in spite of govt’s many efforts and solutions toprevent.

5. As Union Govt announced the formation of Telangana, many questions were askedabout feasibility of small states with respect to India

6 Do you agree india is a diverse country. Elaborate

7. What is the difference between Integration and Assembling with respect to IndianSociety

8 what qualities did you like in the personality of Narayana Murthy

9. Expand ISI,RAW,IB. Their roles.

10. Book written by Narayana Murthy?

11. If you are struck in a flood hit area how will you communicate to authorities.

Q. How was interview: normal, stress, mixed? Did they ask any uncomfortablequestions, if yes how did you answer it?

My Interview was normal. They motivated me to give best answers. As every memberof the board was asking questions with a smile I dint feel any stress , and I tooanswered with a smile.Just be honest with the board. There is no wrong in telling “sorry sir/madam, I don’tknow”

Q. How did you maintain the study-mood, motivation and tempo throughout thisperiod?

If you have best answer for the question” WHY I WANTED TO BECOME CIVILSERVENT” you will never give up your preparation . Though many obstacle comes inthe way of preparation one should not get dishearten from them. Always remember “SUN WILL BE BRIGHTER ONCE THE CLOUDS PASSES”.

If you are bored or depressed go to a movie or do something which rejuvenates you.Once you are fresh go back to studies. I use to study 6-7 hours .

Q. Did you appear in Civil Service (Mains) 2012? If yes, share the experience,marks, what Essay did you write?

Yes I did appear for 2012 mains. Civil mains is altogether different ball game. It’smore stressful exam compared to CAPF(AC). I wrote PPP model essay

Service Preference

Q. What was your service preference order (CRPF>CISF>SSB etc) and why didyou pick up the particular order?

CISF>CRPF>BSF>ITBF>SSB

I wanted time to prepare for civil services. I discussed with my seniors they suggestedme the above order.

If you preparing for UPSC exams means you are going to have patience in yourpersonality. I got the same in this journey. And you are going to become a wellinformed man in the society.
