    Disconnectors can be used for bustransfer switching, e. g. in double or 

    multiple busbar arrangements of 

    SF6 gas insulated substations (GIS).

    Switching sequence for the current

    transfer in a GIS with double busbar:

    Closing of disconnector No. 2 yields

    distribution of the load current “I” onto

    the two parallel paths “I1” and “I2” ac-

    cording to the relation of the impe-

    dances of both sections. Opening of 

    disconnector No. 1 in the third scheme

    leads to the transfer of the load current

    part “I1” from bus A to bus B.

    IEC: The value of the rated bus-transfer current for both air- and gas-insulated

    disconnectors shall be 80 % of the rated normal current. It will normally not

    exceed 1600 A, irrespective of the rated normal current of the disconnector.
