• Name of Law Date (year) Description• 1. Tea Act 1773 A tax on all imported East India Co. tea.

2. Navigation Act 1651 Laws passed by Parliament to ensure Great Britain made money colonies.Only British ships could be used to bring goods to the colonies.

• 3. Townshend Act 1767 Law placed a tax on all imported goods such as glass, paper, paint and lead.

• 4. Sugar Act 1765 Law placed a tax on luxury items in the colonies such as wine, silk, sugar and molasses.

• 5. Intolerable Act 1774 Law was used to punish Boston for the Boston Tea Party. Boston Harbor was blockaded-nothing in or out of Boston.

• 6. Stamp Act 1765 Placed a tax on all printed material. • 7. Quartering Act 1765 Law forced colonists to house and feed British

soldiers.• 8. Writs of Assistance 1767 Search warrant which allowed British soldiers

to search colonial homes for smuggled goods.

Sons of Liberty to protest.• 2.Why did North Carolina not send delegates to the Stamp Act Congress?

Governor Tryon refused to allow the Assembly to meet and elect a representative.

• 3.How did the Boston Massacre impact the 13 colonies? It led to the revolutionary war because it angered the colonists.

• 4.In what ways did the Townshend Acts attack colonists’ rights and freedoms? It tightened the enforcement of existing laws and imposed new taxes. It was partly designed to raise money to pay the salaries of all royal officials in the colonies.

• 5.In what ways were the Intolerable Acts harsher than Parliament’s previous laws? Parliament sealed off the Boston Harbor until colonist paid for the damage. King George III appointed a new royal governor and placed the colony under military control governor. Colonists found their life unbearable.
