Dear parents/carers, This half term has been such a short one and it has flown by so quickly, it is hard to believe it is already over! I am afraid that this newsletter is rather shorter than usual as the staff have been so busy with the main focus being on Year 11 and their exams they have not been able to prepare as many pages as we usually do. I hope you still enjoy the pages we have been able to present to you. As you will see our week at Kingswood Activity Centre with Year 9 was a great experience. The focus of the week was on team building and working together; the pupils were a credit to you and to the school. They tried many different activities including Night linewhere they all had to follow each other with only one hand on the shoulder in front, blindfolded and having to trust each other, and the Leap of Faithwhere they had to climb many metres into the air and balance on a small square plinth, before standing up and jumping off to try to catch a trapeze handle. I had a go myself and it was terrifying!!! We have had some fantastic sporting successes this half term with many pupils representing the school at the Merseyside Athletics championships. Fifteen pupils went to the competition and they returned with 52 medals!!! Amazing. Well done to them all and to the PE department. I would like to take this opportunity to formally welcome our new Assistant Headteacher, Mrs. Riley. Mrs. Riley is leading the school in relation to pupil progress (Standards and Achievement) and is currently teaching in the Maths department. My final comment has to go to all the pupils in Year 11 and it is to say a huge WELL DONE. It has been an extremely stressful term for them as exam situations are never easy. We are so proud of the way they have all approached their revision and the exam process and I am sure you as parents and carers are very proud of them too. I am positive we will be equally as proud of their results when we get them in August. Keep up the good work Year 11 as there are still a few more next term. I hope you all have a great half term holiday. We will look forward to welcoming your children back to school on June 2nd for the final half term of this academic year. Mrs. Oxton-Grant

Dear parents/carers,

This half term has been such a short one and it has flown by so quickly, it is hard to believe it is already over!

They tried many different activities including “Night line” where they all had to follow each other with only one hand on the shoulder in front, blindfolded and having to trust each other, and the “Leap of Faith” where they had to climb many metres into the air and balance on a small square plinth, before standing up and jumping off to try to catch a trapeze handle.

In May our students were asked by the Plaza to perform in an information film encouraging cinema goers to put litter in the bin.

We took along our Year 10’s to help out. Mr Dixon, Mrs Bretherton, Georgia McGrady and Jamie Wright played the parts of the nightmare

“litter lout” family. Charlie Leyland was an anti-social scally who tipped pop-corn over Ben Savage’s head. (The directors had to do several takes

of this and Ben was very patient!) The filming took all morning and the students learned a lot about how films are put together and how patient you have to be. The Plaza cinema commended the stu-

dents on their exemplary behaviour despite there being a lot of sit-ting and waiting. The films will be shown before every movie (that is 9

times a day!) starting in the summer holidays. We are so proud that our students have been involved in this and it continues our suc-cessful link with this wonderful community cinema. The History

department are hoping to get involved with an oral history project with the Plaza Arts department, looking at the experiences of

dockers in Liverpool 1945 onwards.

In the past two weeks the P.E. Department have taken two teams to the Merseyside SEN Schools Athletics Tournament. This is held annually at Wavertree Sports Park in a fantastic athletics stadium.

On Thursday May 8th we took 7 pupils. They all performed admirably and everyone gained at least 1 medal. The team was made up of Paul McDonald, Lizzie Silcock, Mathew Hind, Daniel Mayor, Tom Hunter Callum Fairweather and Alice Connolly.

On Thursday May 15th we took 16 pupils. They did fantastically well and won 52 medals between them an average of over 3 medals per person.

They should all be very proud of themselves and I am sure this is an event which they will remember for a long time.

The Leap group invited past pupils back for afternoon tea. The group shopped and prepared a lovely spread of sandwiches and scones. A great time was had had by all. It was lovely to see how grown up and mature our college students were.

Uniform reminder Can I please remind parents/ carers that we do have a strong ethos in relation to

personal presentation and we are very keen that pupils present themselves as smartly as possible in their

school uniform. The fact that the majority of pupils are always well presented was particularly noted by the

Ofsted inspection team and I would like to thank you for the efforts you make in ensuring your child looks so

clean and smart in their school uniform. Unfortunately over the last few weeks there has been a decline in

appearance for a number of pupils, usually relating to no ties and incorrect school shoes. If your child does

not wear their tie we do lend them one for a day but if this continues they do lose points in their daily score

and they are reminded that if the tie is lost another one needs to be purchased from school (£3.95) School

shoes are sensible, formal black shoes NOT black trainers. Please can you ensure that for the Summer term

the high standards of our expectation in relation to school uniform is supported. If you have any problems

please contact your child’s form tutor or Head of Key Stage. Thank you.

Our website

our new look website last

not yet as good as we would wish it to be

and is a “work in progress.” If you have

any suggestions for items you would like

to be added onto the website or any

suggestions for improvement we would

be very grateful for your comments.

Talk Homework

Every Monday in assembly the

children are introduced to the “Talk

Homework” theme for the week. The

idea behind “Talk Homework” is that all members of

the family can interact in discussing the topic in

question, possibly doing some extra research, and

enabling your child to return to school and share with

their class and form teacher all they have discussed

and learned during form time sessions that week.

Please support your child and the school by

engaging in our “Talk Homework” programme.

Thank you.
