On Friday 10 August our students and teachers participated in the colour run. I think the teachers had more fun than the kids! They are so excited about the money they have helped raise for our basketball court, and they thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Fun-Run alongside the students from Wingham Public. It was great to see parents and friends there enjoying the glorious weather. Thank you to all those that helped out with the sausage sizzle. We appreciate the effort and time you give to our students. Last Friday we dressed up as farmers for a very good cause. It makes me so proud of our students to hear them talk with empathy about the drought and the impact it is having. On Thursday at our assembly, I was impressed with our students and teachers as they shared their learning and variety of experiments from ‘Science Week’. We should never underestimate our children’s capabilities and potential. What a sensational effort. Yesterday we celebrated our annual Book Week Parade. This year was exceptional once again, with many colourful characters on parade. It was fantastic to see so many children dressed up. Thank you to all the parents and family that came along to join in the fun. Mrs Pasolini was very impressed and grateful for all the support given to the Book Fair. ‘Don’t cheat the world of your contribution. MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL Dear Parents and Carers, The last two weeks have been fast and fabulous. On Friday 10 August our students and teachers

participated in the colour run. I think the teachers had more fun than the kids! COLOUR RUN All registered students must log in to the website and choose their prizes by this Friday 24 August. All cash donations should have already been left at the school office. Please ensure this is completed as prizes will not be issued after this date. The website address is: schoolfundraising.com.au WHOOPING COUGH We have had a diagnosed case of Whooping cough at the school. Whooping cough usually begins like a cold, with a runny nose, tiredness and sometimes mild fever. Coughing then develops, in bouts, followed by a deep gasp or “whoop”. Some people vomit after coughing. It can be very serious in small children who may go blue or stop breathing during coughing attacks and may need to go to hospital. In older children and adults it may be less serious, with bouts of coughing that continue for many weeks. If symptoms develop, see your GP. Some close contacts at high risk are children under 1 year and children not fully vaccinated. ZONE ATHLETICS CARNIVAL 30 students from Wingham Brush competed alongside 500 other students from schools in the Manning Zone at the Zone Athletics Carnival in Week 3. IN THE CLASSROOM 2H This week 2H have been exploring two new concepts – ‘tessellation’ and ‘alliteration.’ The students can explain to their family and friends exactly what these words mean. In the meantime, let’s just say …

Indigo and Rhylan together tessellated a terrific Titanic.

Riley’s really raptured with his oblongs, octagons and other objects.

Adelaide and Letiesha built a bird by tessellating terrific triangles and a hive using huge hexagons.

Beautiful Breanna busily built with blocks and Ternisha tessellated triangular toys. 4/5M Colour Run Students in 4/5M thoroughly enjoyed participating in the ‘Colour Run’ at Wingham Public School on Friday 10 August.

BOOK WEEK

TAHLARA’S STORY My name is Tahlara. I am 9 years old and I am in year 4 at Wingham Brush Public School. Recently, I decided to donate my hair after speaking to my hairdresser about others who had donated their hair. I thought it was a great idea. I loved my hair long and as I am a dancer I always enjoyed having it done in pretty styles. I thought that if I cut my hair and donated it, someone else could also enjoy it. So that’s what I did. I had 40cm (600grams) of hair chopped off and I donated it all to Variety – The Children’s Charity in the hope that it would help put a smile of the face of someone who needed it.

This is the response I received from Variety- The Children’s Charity NSW Tahlara what an amazing girl you are! Thank you for your generosity which will help other kids. We use the hair to fund things like wheelchairs, wigs and lots of other stuff that kids who have a disability or illness need. Thanks and good luck with the dancing!
