After the War of 1812:

• Economy is booming

•Federalist party has fallen apart and Republicans are still in control.

•Only one political party = no political arguments

•President is personable, popular, and interested in all areas of the country

•Ran unopposed in 1820 and got all but 4 electoral votes

• Improved Relations with Great Britain

• Added Florida from Spain: Spain was worried about losing other colonies and agreed to grant control of Florida to the U.S. if the U.S. paid $5 million that Spain owed to U.S. residents.
