Homework Policy/ Grading
Why I assign homework
• I believe homework is important because it is a valuable aid in helping students make the most of their experience in school. I give homework because it reinforces what has been taught in class, prepares students for upcoming lessons and helps students develop self-discipline, responsibility and organizational skills.
When homework will be assigned
• Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday nights, and should take students no more than 30 minutes to complete - not including long-range projects and studying for tests. Most homework assignments will involve re-reading assignments, answering questions, and completing related worksheets.
How to complete homework/classwork
assignments• Attempt ALL questions.
• Rephrase question in the answer– Question: Where do you go after English?– Answer: I go to Art after English.
Where do I place my homework?
• Place your homework on top of your desk during the bell ringer.
Test/Quizzes
• Adequate notice will be given for all tests (usually one week advanced notice). Any test that receives a D or F must be returned within 2 days signed by a parent. There will be no make-up of low quiz scores. A student who has scored an F on a test has one week (from the test date) to retake the test. Students will have at least two to three days advanced warning for quizzes. Tests and quizzes are worth 40% of your overall grade.
Folders
• Each student is required to have one 3-ring binder/folder (1 inch) to act as a class folder. Students may turn in their folders for extra credit at the end of each nine weeks. Each folder will be scored based on organization.
Notes
• Students are required to have a spiral notebook to write ENGLISH notes inside. Periodically, you will be able to use your notes on Tests. Please keep up with this notebook!
Project
• Each student may be required to present a project each nine weeks. Students will have a choice of the style of presentation (ex: PowerPoint presentation, 3-D diorama, etc.). Projects will be worth 20% of your overall grade.
Classwork
• Any other assignment that I assign will be worth 5-30 points each. All assignments need to be kept in the student’s folder for study purposes.
Absences
• Any student who is absent must check the absentee folder for their previous day(s) assignment(s). The absent student has three (3) days to make up any missed assignment(s).
Student’s Homework Responsibilities
• All assignments will be completed.
• Students are responsible for making up homework missed due to absences.
• Homework will be turned in on time.
• Students will turn in work that is neatly done.
If You Choose Not To Do Homework…
• Parents may be asked to sign completed homework each night.
• Students may be required to complete homework in my class during PE or advisory.
• Students may be required to complete homework in In-School Suspension (ISS).
Teacher’s Homework Responsibilities
• I will check all homework and keep a record of assignments completed and not completed. Because I strongly believe in the value positive support plays in motivating students to develop good study habits, I will give students praise and other incentives when they to their homework.
