Issue 436 Autumn 2 Term - 2019 Canon Burrows C of E Primary School, Oldham Road, Ashton-Under-Lyne Citizen of the week Mr. Oswald Miss Drake’s Class Miss Gaskell’s Class Nursery Class Junior Play Leader Award Harriet, Year 1 Thank you to everyone for all the wonderful Christmas gifts that have been brought in for this year’s Christmas Appeal. These gifts will be taken to Action Together to be distributed to children across Tameside. Breakfast Club Booking is now open on the app, for our new breakfast club starting in January. With 50 places for children from Reception to Year 6, the club will open at 8am and will provide a healthy breakfast, a range of activities and help with homework each morning. The cost for the club will be £2 per day and booking will be on a half termly basis . Thank you to Mr. Oswald for organizing this year’s fantastic Christmas raffles. The adult raffle was drawn yesterday, please check your tickets against the list on page 3 to see if you are a lucky winner. The children’s raffle will be drawn next Thursday, so please ensure monies & tickets are returned by Wednesday 11th December. The Willow Wood Christmas flumpets are on sale in school at a cost of £2.00 each. There is a choice of Robins, Snowmen, Penguins or Reindeers. We are collecting The Sun Books for Schools tokens which are printed in The Sun & The Sun on Sunday (until January 18th 2020). Please send in any tokens you may collect to help us reach our target to get some new reading books for school. Thank you to all those who have welcomed the posada into their homes, we hope you have enjoyed having Mary & Joseph for the evening and were able to record what you did to show the others in the class. Father Christmas came to school on Monday to deliver our Christmas tree, which has now been decorated and looks lovely in the main corridor. Thank to Atlas Trading for helping Father Christmas with his delivery. There are a few tickets left for the Christmas performances, if you have not ordered yours please do so as soon as possible. Years 3 and 4 held a drumming assembly on Tuesday to show the school what they have been learning in djembe and samba drumming respectively. Well done to both year groups for their fantastic performances. Please can we remind parents/carers about the importance of having consideration for our children and our neighbours when dropping off and picking up children from school. This week the local PCSO has had to come and support our Park Smart team due to the increasing number of parents/carers parking illegally or without thought for others. If it is at all possible, please walk to school and if you really have to use a car, park safely further away from school and walk some of the way. Nursery have had visits from a cheeky Stick Manthis week. He has taken the flour out of the kitchen and made flour angels, done some painting, played with the dinosaurs and been taped to the wall. All children’s pantomime tickets must be paid for by next Friday, December 13th.

Thank you to everyone for all the wonderful

Dinner Provision Thank you to all those who requested a change in dinner provision for next half term. These have now been

processed.

Absences If your child is absent from school you MUST contact the school office by 9.00am. If we have not had contact

with you this will result in the school having to contact all members of your contact group. If this is not successful, a home visit, then either the police and/or social services will be contacted. We have a duty of care to ensure your

child and the family are safe.

Letters A reminder that as an ECO school we no longer send out hard copies of letters. All letters are emailed out and

can also been accessed on the school website. Please make sure we have up to date email addresses and that you check your emails regularly.

Out of School Clubs All out of school clubs finish this Friday (6th December), with the exception of cookery club which will still have a

session next Thursday to replace a session missed earlier in the term. As clubs are now finished, please ensure your children are picked up at the end of the school day (3.10pm).

Programmes for next term’s clubs have now been sent out by email. The app will open for booking next term’s clubs next Monday (December 9th) until January 8th.

IntraHealth will attend school for a second time for a catch up session for any children that missed their flu vaccination. However, if in the meantime you have had your child vaccinated at the GP please can you inform Gemma Hilton at IntraHealth (0333 3583 397) or school, so

that this avoids a double vaccination.

Thank you to all those children, & their parents/carers, who came along to take part in the cross

country event last Saturday (Nov 30th) at East Cheshire Harriers. Well done to all of you for

showing great determination and perseverance and for trying something new. A special well done

to Molly (Y4) who came 2nd in the competition.
