Mr. Newton’s Geometry 2012-2013NetLogo Programming
Program 1: Coordinate Geometry - Day 2
Get ready to work:Step 1: Getting Started
Login: thslibstu Password: Password!Go to Mr. Newton’s Website → NetLogo for Geometry
Step 2: Click here:
Task 1
Construct a line that contains the points D ( -2, 1) and X ( 0, -3).
Construct a line segment that contains M ( 2, -10 ) and N ( 1, 5 ).
Label the points. Remember to label everything! Check on
your neighbor!
Task 2
In quadrant 1: Draw a circleIn quadrant 2: Draw a triangleIn quadrant 3: Draw a trapezoidIn quadrant 4: Draw a frowny face
Ask your neighbor where the quadrants are!
Task 3
Construct a line segment with endpoints A and D.A( 4, 7 )D ( -3, -6 )
Find the length of segment AD. Use the distance formula or the
Pythagorean Theorem!
Task 4
Construct a right triangle ABC with verticesA ( 2, 3 ) B ( 7, 3 ) and C ( 7, -3)
Find the length of the hypotenuse.Find the Perimeter.Challenge: Find the Area.
You can use the Pythagorean Theorem
on this problem!
Task 5
Construct a line that contains A ( 3, -4 ) and B ( 8, -1).Construct another line which contains C ( 5, 5 ) and is parallel to the first line.
Parallel Lines have the same slope!!
Task 6
Construct a line that contains C ( -4, 3 ) and E ( 1, 1 ).Construct a line perpendicular to the first line.Label the points.
Perpendicular Lines intersect at a right angle!
Task 7
Construct the following rays:C ( -4, 2 )D ( 5, 5 )E ( 1, -3 )Label the points.Which type of angle is <CDE?Find a point which exists on the interior of <CDE.Find a point which exists on the exterior of <CDE.
The vertex is always the middle letter in the angle name!
Task 8
In quadrant 1: Draw an angle that measures approximately 70°.
In quadrant 2: Draw an angle that measures approximately 130°.
In quadrant 3: Draw an angle that measures approximately 180°.
In quadrant 4: Draw a right angle.
Remember how big a right angle is and the rest is easy!
Task 9
In quadrant 1: Construct a square with side lengths of 4.
In quadrant 2: Construct a square with perimeter 28.
In quadrant 3: Construct a rectangle with area 20 and perimeter 18.
In quadrant 4: Construct a circle with a radius of 3.
Remember that quadrant 1 is the top right! Then it goes
counter clockwise!
Task 10
Draw a star with 5 points using 10 segments.
Since it has 10 sides, this star is a decagon!
Task 11
Try drawing Pikachu with the mouse. See if you can make a better Pikachu than Mr. Newton!
Pika!
