I was deeply involved in its development,but also in its constant and numerous adjusments. This program is the only french forensicchemistry program in North America, and only the second french program in the world (theother one is in Switzerland).

In 2008, my research program shifted towards copper-catalyzedchemistry. We developed a three-step sequence culminating with the synthesis of aminoacid precursors. For their solid expertise in amino acid chemistry, I chose to visit thisparticular research group. The expertise I acquired during this visit (through teaching,thesis evaluation, groups meetings, research collaboration) provided me knowledge andskills to improve my research program. These months in Montpellier led me to develop anew project regarding the "auto-assemblage" of some of our amino acid precursors. Thisproject will be the subject of a grant proposal in the near future.

2012/1 - 2018/6 Popularizer of Science and Chemistry, Community EngagementTarget Stakeholder: General PublicOutcome / Deliverable: 2012-2016 - I visited a number of high schools and cegeps andgave lectures to teenagers about forensics. In these lectures, I talked about the fun ofdoing and studying chemistry and forensics. May 29th 2014 - I organized the ISPAJESGala (2014's theme "The Forensic Box"). In ISPAJES Project (Ingénierie SimultanéePrésentée Aux Jeunes du Secondaire), grade 9 students design, over the course of aschool year, a product or system based on a client's needs. It culminates with the Galawhere the students present their product. Since spring 2016 - Along with AlexandreBeaudoin (fingerprint specialist at Sureté du Québec), I am writing a book on fingerprintdevelopment using household products. This book, intended for the general public butalso for high school teachers in science, will be published in late 2017 or early 2018.Evidence of Uptake/Impact: I hope that these activities will convince youngsters about thewonders and magic of chemistry and science. I hope this will motivate them to embrase ona scientific career.Activity Description: My role here is to get the next generation excited about science,and especially about chemistry. Through different activities related to forensic science, Ipresent the wonders and magic of chemistry to our youngsters.

International Collaboration Activities

2016/6 - 2020/6 Collaborator, FranceCollaboration with Université de Toulouse III Paul Sabatier IUT Castres. This collaborationwas born when professor Sébastien Bernard from IUT Castres visited UQTR in June2016. We decided to initiate collaborative work in the field of copper chemistry (entitled"Analytical optimization of copper-coupling reactions"). In April 2018, the project willbegin : I will supervise a first internship from Castres. Sébastien is providing his expertisein analytical chemistry and I am the expert in copper-catalyzed methodology. Visitingstudents in my lab will perform synthetic organic chemistry. The input of Sébastien in thisproject is significant: his expertise in high throughput analysis will allow us to obtain resultsof our daily optimization much more rapidly. I intend to supervise 3 to 5 internships fromthis institution in the next five years.

2006/4 - 2020/4 Collaborator, FranceCollaboration with Université d'Auvergne Clermont-Ferrand I - IUT Le Puy-en-Velay.Since 2006, I have been collaborating with this institution specialized in organic and hybridmaterials through different projects in organic chemistry. Through our copper-catalyzedchemistry, we prepare various organic models that can be utilized by our collaborators intheir research on materials. This important work has provided us with some useful hintson how to make our reaction more appealing to the industry. I supervised 12 intershipsover the last ten years. The knowledge they acquired and the training they received in mylaboratory motivated them to further their education (e.g. engineering school, MSc, PhD)or obtain an interesting position in the industry (e.g. Michelin). I intend to welcome 6 to 8internships from this institution for the next five years.

2016/1 - 2019/1 Collaborator, Côte d'IvoireAt the beginning of 2016, I started an international collaboration with professeur YvesAlain Bekro (Université Nangui Abrogoua, Ivory Coast). He recently provided us with someGlyphaea brevis (Spreng) Monachino (Tiliaceae) samples. Extraction is now underway inmy lab and neuroprotective assessment of these extracts will soon begin. I intend to visitthese collaborators in Côte d'Ivoire in 2018 (possibly with the help of an AUF Financialsupport).
