Mission• Accelerate the transition of innovative

technology to the US warfighter– Allow the DoD to more fully benefit from its R&D

investment in labs and small companies.

– Warfighters benefit from small companies’ ability to rapidly develop and supply innovative technology.

HemCon• Bandage that stops severe

hemorrhaging.– Significant improvements in survival

and reduction of blood loss.

– Easily removed, reduction in post-injury trauma and infection.

• MilTech is helping improve yield/increase output and reduce costs.

Rescue Wrap• First responder medical transport

bedding.– Used to rescue Jessica Lynch and other

critically injured soldiers• Reduces hypothermia, calms patient, allows

access to injuries, reduces post-injury trauma

– Dramatic growth (90 to 4000 units/year)– MilTech has provided assistance with

supplier development, financial modeling to ensure sustainability, training and product design.

SAM Medical• SAM Sling

– 2002 study sponsored by the U.S. Office of Naval Research to Oregon Health Sciences University

– Improved treatment of “Open Book” pelvic fractures, more common w/IEDs

• Lightweight limb splints

• MilTech is assisting with lean/supplier qualification

Hydration Technologies• TechLink assisted w/NASA Space Act agreement to help

develop water filtration membrane.

• Technology provides power-free clean water for deployed troops and during natural or man-made disasters.

• Requires ruggedized, portable, easy to operate system.

• Traditional helicopter rescue methods are slow (single person rescue) and hazardous to both victims and responders.

• PLI’s Helibasket, in use by National Guard, provides safety for responders and rapid, multiple-victim (16+) rescue.
