MPW honors drivers

Forty safe trips around the planet Earth is quite an accomplishment.

For a pair of brothers to accomplish the feat for the same company is extraordinary.

MPW Industrial Services honored Richard “Wayne” Sewell and his brother, Eddie, for each surpassing 1 million safe miles of driving. The ceremony, which also recog-nized MPW employees who have been with the company for 20 and 25 years, took place September 25 at Corporate Head-quarters in Hebron.

Wayne has been with MPW’s Industrial Water Division as a driver since February, 2005. Since he began driving with MPW, he has been assigned and safely operated five tractors. In that time he has helped fa-cilitate significant growth and improvement, including the modernization of MPW’s tractor and trailer fleets.

Since Wayne’s early days at MPW, the

company has replaced the less comfortable 43 foot, 98-inch spring rides with new, air-ride, au-tomatic-transmission trucks that measure 51 feet and 102 inches.

Wayne’s family includes his wife, Dana, and his sons Joshua, Ethan, Brandon and Carter. His hobbies include working on his street rod and hunting.

Wayne’s favorite part of working for MPW is getting to travel all over the United States and Canada.

Eddie Sewell is single and has a son, Aaron. He has been with MPW’s Industrial Water Division as a driver since January, 2006.

Eddie enjoys his ability to travel all over the country and meet new people.

Wayne and Eddie are looking forward to their next 10 years — and another 2 million safe miles — with MPW.

Sometimes the simplest actions can have enor-mous consequences.

Such was the case on September 5 at the Toyota Plant in Georgetown, Ky. In an area called the Prime Oven Incline, MPW Industrial Services Technician Enrique Castillo observed a piece of

machinery called a kicker break off and land in a chain drive mech-anism.

Castillo, who has worked for MPW just over a year, witnessed the event and immedi-ately reported it to MPW Operations

Manager Tyler Keathley, who took photographs to submit to Toyota’s Maintenance Department as a part of an Abnormal Conditions Report.

According to the report: “A broken portion of one of the kickers was found lodged in the chain

track on the incline of the primer oven. This was discovered by a team member who was cleaning the incline. This situation could have seriously impacted both quality and production, had it gone unnoticed.

“Immediate corrective action taken: [At 4 p.m., Keathley] contacted David O’Daniel with Mainte-nance after I located the broken kicker that the broken piece came from. He took some notes on it and said that he was going to get it changed out. By 5:15 p.m. David had a new kicker in-stalled.”

When Toyota representatives received the report, they were able to correct the situation before any damage was caused to Toyota’s facility. This is important because if the situation would not have been mitigated immediately, it could have led to a costly shutdown in the plant, according to MPW Senior Account Manager D.C. Griffith.

“We’re proud of Enrique for following the proper procedure,” said Griffith. “This is a great example for all of our employees to follow: When you see a problem, make sure you report it to your super-visor as soon as possible.”
