    The turbine testing lab at KathmanduUniversity isoneofakind laboratoryfacilityestablished with a vision of aidinghydropower development inNepal throughresearch, testing and simulation, validationandothertechnicalsupport.TTLcollaborateswith the industries and private sectors toaddress technical and societal aspects ofhydropower development and turbinerelatedissues.Capableoftestingtheturbineupto 300 kW, the lab is equippedwith thestateof theart technology, computersandspaciousofficespaceforacademicaswellascommercialpurpose.

    Kathmandu University TechnicalTraining Centre (KUTTC) has beenrecently established with a mission tofulfilltheskilledworkforceincontextofadvancing technologies in automobileand manufacturing sectors. It is anautonomous technical training instituteoperatedbyKathmanduUniversityandwas established with financial andtechnical support from KoreaInternational Cooperation Agency(KOICA)toprovideskillorientedtrainingprograms to under privileged youths.KUTTC is going to run short termtechnical trainings on Automobile,Motorbike, Carpentry, Welding andMachining.Itprovidesthestudentsbestplatform to hone their workshop skillsand delve into automotive engineeringfield many a promising area ofmechanicalengineering.

    School of Engineering SchoolofEngineering (SOE)atKathmanduUniversitywasestablished in1994withthe aim to produce quality Engineers in the country. It started Bachelor ofEngineering (BE) program in Mechanical, Computer and Electrical & ElectronicsEngineering from 1994 for the first time in the country. In 2007 new program inGeomaticsEngineeringwasstartedincollaborationwithLandManagementTrainingCenter, Minister of Land Reforms and Management, Government of Nepal. KUcompletedNepaleseEngineeringeducationin2009bystartingBEinCivilEngineeringwithspecializationinHydropower.Until2013SOEhasgraduatedtotalof1861outofwhich1728inundergraduateleveland133ingraduatelevel.School of Engineering of Kathmandu University is running its program within theumbrellaofthevisionandmissionofKathmanduUniversitytogetherwithsixotherschools. School of Engineering compliments vision and mission of KathmanduUniversity.

    Mechanical Engineering department was started in 1994 as the first Engineeringprogram under the School of Engineering at Kathmandu University offeringundergraduateprogram.Since its inception,thedepartmenthasrelentlesslystriventoaccomplishthemissionoftheuniversity,whichistoprovidequalityeducationforleadership development. Until 2013 department of Mechanical Engineering hasgraduatedtotalof425outofwhich399 inundergraduate leveland26 ingraduatelevel. As per the increase demand of the Mechanical Engineer, department hasstartedgraduateprogram in theyear2002.Wemovedaheadandstartedour firstPhD program in 2008. There was a single candidate for the PhD program andsuccessfullygraduatedintheyear2013inthefieldofHydropower.Department offers the bestwith its highly trained staffs and expatriate faculty. Itendeavors to offer you the most and exposes you to the latest technology inMechanicalEngineeringdiscipline so thatyoucangain themost.Wehaveactivelyaligned our courses to include most recent developments in our field and offerexcellent academia to the students to make them employable. Two months ofindustrial training, within and outside the country, is organized for students todevelopprofessionalism.Thedepartmenthascollaborationswithforeignandnativeuniversities,INGOs,companiesandorganization.

    Courses Offered

    Master program in Planning and Operation of Energy Systems

    ThemasterinplanningandoperationofEnergySystemsisanongoinginternationalmastersprogramatDepartmentofMechanicalEngineering,KathmanduUniversity.The course is designed and targeted for professionals from nationals andinternationalswhowanttohaveacarrier inenergysector inareasofPlanningandoperations. The department has aimed to take 10 candidates in a batch and hasoffered four scholarships, two for the national candidate and two for theinternational candidate. If there are no international candidates and/or femalecandidates,thereservedseatsforthesecategorieswillbeconsideredunderPayingcategory.

    Selection of Candidate All students must pass (secure at least 40 in total) both screening test and

    performancetest.Passmarkforeachtestis20.Scholarshipwillbeawarded to thestudentssecuring thehighestmeritsafter thetests. Students applying under Industrial Sponsorship category will not beconsideredforscholarship.Studentswho have applied under Scholarship category but not selected in thescreeningwillnotbeconsideredforadmissionunderPayingcategory.AdmissionofstudentsunderthePayingcategorywillbedoneintheorderoftheirmeritsinthetests.For the seat under Paying category reserved for female candidate, the femalecandidatesecuringthehighestscorewillbeselected.

    Name of the program: Master in Planning and Operation of Energy Systems Course duration: 2 Years (24 months) Total number of seats: 10 (four Scholarships including two Nepalese and two international, two under Industrial Sponsorship Category and four under Paying category. Out of the four students in Paying Category, one seat is reserved for female candidate. Out of two scholarship (for Nepalese), one seat is reserved for female candidate) Course starts on: September, 2014 Degree awarded: Master in Planning and Operation of Energy Systems Program Expenses: NRs. 297,000 (For Normal Candidates) NRs. 420,000 (For Industrial Nominated Candidates) The program expenses include Tuition Fee, Insurance charge and caution money. (The money allocated for the caution will be refunded after completion of the course)

    Two selected students will be awarded with scholarship which includes tuitionexpensesandaccommodations.

    Highestmerit studentswill get chance to do their projectwork in any selectedforeignuniversity

    Competitive students will get teaching and research assistantship as per therequirementofthedepartment
