Moving Forward TogetherSpiritual Food for the Journey

Good Friday, April 10

A Message from Fr. HenryAs a body is one though it has many parts, and allthe parts of the body, though many, are one body,so also Christ. God placed the parts, each one ofthem, in the body as he intended. But as it is, thereare many parts, yet one body.

The eye cannot say to the hand, “I do not needyou,” nor again the head to the feet, “I do not need you.”But God has soconstructed the body so that there may be no division in the body, but that theparts may have the same concern for one another.

If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it; if one part is honored, all the partsshare its joy.

Now you are Christ’s body, and individually parts of it.1 Corinthians Chapter 12

When One Suffers, We All Suffer… When One Is Honored, We All ShareIn The Joy

Fellow St Jude Parishioners:

Social distancing prevents us from going to church. So we cannot greet oneanother before mass. We cannot share the pews with our fellow St Judeparishioners and join them in song. We cannot go forward in procession toreceive the Eucharist.

Page 2: Moving Forward Together - THE ST JUDE ROMAN CATHOLIC …

Then what can we do?

As did the Corinthian believers of two-thousand years ago live out the promise,so can we the St Jude Parish believers today live out the promise.

And what is the promise?

That we are Christ’s body, and individually part of it. That we who make up theSt Jude Parish family are seamlessly united, with no visible division. That weshare the same loving concern for one another today that the Corithianbelievers did for one another in their day.

When one of us members is honored, we all share in that joy. All the more so,when it is Jesus, the Head of the Body. We will all share in that Easter joy. TheLord is Risen! But not yet. Today is Good Friday.

When one of us suffers, we all suffer. As each of us suffers their own individualexperience in the face of the Coronavirus pandemic, so all of us as one Bodyshare together in the common suffering. All the more so when it is Jesus, theHead of the Body, who suffers. Today, as Jesus hangs on the Cross, we sharein that experience to the extent that he invites us to do so.

Let us first respond whole-heartedly to Jesus’ invitation for us to focus on howhe suffered for us. Then let us take everything that we are suffering in this timeof the pandemic and turn it over to him.

He is the Head. We are members of the Body. As electrical impulses flow fromthe head down the spine and out to all parts of the body, so let the love thatGod has for us — and the love that we have for one another — flow throughoutthe Body that is our parish family. We are the St Jude Parish family heldtogether by the glue that is the loving concern that we have for one another. Aswe cannot come together as community in our church on these most holy ofdays, so let us in the privacy of our homes, in a quiet, unguarded moment, giveourselves over to an appreciation of how much we St Jude parishioners needeach other.

As people everywhere are giving thought to what the new normal might bethroughout the world, after we have figured out how to respond to and cure theCoronavirus, let us attempt to picture what the new normal might be within thewalls of St Jude Church, on that day when we can all gather together and onceagain receive the Eucharist.

The new normal will be a continuation of us living out as a parish family andfully embracing the words of I Corinthians 12.

We are one Body. We are one parish family. We are held together with acommon need for and love of one another. This common need and love forone another is that which binds us together seamlessly and without division.

Today, we overcome the restrictions of social distancing by virtuallyparticipating in Jesus’ suffering on the Cross. And this coming Sunday wevirtually participate in the triumph that is Jesus’ resurrection.

Page 3: Moving Forward Together - THE ST JUDE ROMAN CATHOLIC …

We are all parts of the one body, with Jesus as the head. When one suffers,we all suffer. When one is honored, we all share in the joy.

Yours in Christ, Fr Henry

VATICAN CITY—With people forced to stay home, even during Holy Week, because of the coronavirus pandemic, the archbishop of Turin has announceda special online exposition of the Shroud of Turin, which many believe is theburial cloth of Jesus.

On Holy Saturday, April 11, as Christians contemplate Jesus lying in the tomb,Archbishop Cesare Nosiglia will lead a liturgy of prayer and contemplationbefore the shroud at 5 pm local time (11 am EDT).

The prayer service will be live-streamed along with live images of the 14-foot-by-4-foot shroud, which has a full-length photonegative image of a man, frontand back, bearing signs of wounds that correspond to the Gospel accounts ofthe torture Jesus endured in his passion and death.

As of April 5, the Archdiocese of Turin said it was finalizing the plans andwould publish a list of participating television stations and links to thelivestream later in the week. (Note, we will update the livestreaminformation in the Friday 4/10 newsletter.)

Announcing the special display, Archbishop Nosiglia said April 4 that he hadreceived “thousands and thousands” of messages “asking me if, in this time ofgrave difficulty we are going through, it would be possible to pray this HolyWeek before the shroud” and ask God for “the grace to defeat evil as he did, trusting in the goodness and mercy of God.”

The archbishop told Vatican News that the online viewing of the shroud couldbe “much better” than seeing it in person because the cameras will allowviewers to see it up close and to remain at length with the image.

The image of the crucified man on the shroud, he said, “will go to the heart andthe sadness of many people who will follow us. It will be like staying with theLord on the day we await his resurrection.”

*****************************************************************************************The Divine Mercy Novena of Chaplets

A novena is typically nine days of prayer in preparation of a celebration of afeast day. At the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy, the Chaplet of DivineMercy Novena is recited perpetually at the Hour of Great Mercy — the threeo'clock hour.

The Chaplet can be said anytime, but the Lord specifically asked that it berecited as a novena. He promised, "By this Novena (of Chaplets), I will grantevery possible grace to souls."

IntentionsFor each of the nine days, our Lord gave Saint Faustina a differentintention:All mankind, especially sinners; the souls of priests and religious; all devoutand faithful souls; those who do not believe in God and those who do not yetknow Jesus; the souls who have separated themselves from the Church; themeek and humble souls and the souls of little children; the souls whoespecially venerate and glorify His mercy; the souls detained in purgatory; andsouls who have become lukewarm.

"I desire that during these nine days you bring souls to the fountain of Mymercy, that they may draw therefrom strength and refreshment and whatevergrace they have need of in the hardships of life, and especially at the hour ofdeath" (Diary, 1209).

What You Can DoYou, too, can make a novena of prayer for these intentions and others, especially by praying the Chaplet of The Divine Mercy or by participating in ourcurrent novena.

News from the Food Pantry

Page 7: Moving Forward Together - THE ST JUDE ROMAN CATHOLIC …

It is times like this that our ministry is of particular importance to our families inneed. While the routine operations of the pantry are suspended, we areallowing families to enter the pantry by appointment only. Necessary measuresof social distancing and sanitizing protocols are being taken as each familyenters and departs the pantry. This weekend we completed a successfuldistribution of perishable Easter groceries to our families with the assistance ofBig Y and the Feed My People ministry. This was done in a very safe fashionplacing groceries in boxes curbside as families waited in the car. When ourvolunteers were a safe distance from the curb the groceries were retrieved. Asa result of our cutback, but on-going distribution, certain items are increasing inneed. We are still accepting donations, which can be dropped off at the Churchfrom 8:00-10:00 weekdays or Sunday morning. Items in need at this time arecanned tuna, canned fruit, coffee, mac & cheese and "childrens" cereal.

Thank you again for you support, Jeff Romeo

Prayer Requests and Intentionsby Fr. Jim

An Offering of Prayers

Fr. Henry and I celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of theMass in private every day for the people of St. Judeand for all of the intentions you see in weeklybulletin. That said, I know that many of the faithfulfind it a great comfort to offer their own prayers and

petitions in church before the Holy Eucharist. It is for this reason that I wish tooffer to the people of St. Jude a way to have their special prayer intentionsoffered during the celebration of the Mass in a more tangible way.

If you have a special prayer intention that you would like to have offered duringmy daily private celebration of the Mass, please email your request [email protected]. I will offer all requests received at my nextMass. All emails will be deleted after the requested intention has been offered.

Please know that you are all in my daily prayers and devotions, as well as mydaily celebration of the Mass. Stay faithful and remember that God hears all of

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I loveYou above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannotat this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into myheart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly toYou. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

You know what we need, and we are sure you will provideso that, as in Cana of Galilee,we may return to joy and to feastingafter this time of trial.

Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God. Do not disdain theentreaties of we who are in trial, but deliver us from every danger, O gloriousand blessed Virgin.
