‘Moving ahead in faith’
Joshua 3-4
‘New beginnings for the people of God’
Early in the morning Joshua and all the Israelites … went to the Jordan, where they camped before crossing over ... "When you see the ark of the
covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests … carrying it, you are to move out from your positions and follow it. Then you will know which way to go,
since you have never been this way before. Josh 3:1-4a
1. Resolve to continue following God
The ark of the covenant
‘Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things
among you.’
Josh 3:5
2. Review your relationship with God
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from
all unrighteousness
1 John 1:8-9
2. Review your relationship with God
‘Today I will begin to exalt you in the eyes of all Israel, so that
they may know that I am with you as I was
with Moses’
Josh 3:7
3. Reassure yourself of God’s presence
The priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord stopped in the middle of the
Jordan and stood on dry ground, while all Israel passed by until
the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground
Josh 3:17
4. Reckon on God’s power
‘Choose 12 men from among the people, one from each
tribe, and tell them to take up 12 stones from the middle of the Jordan … and carry them
over with you …’
Josh 4:1-3
5. Recall God’s miracles from the past
For the LORD your God dried up the Jordan before you until you had crossed over. The LORD your God did to the Jordan just what he had done to the Red Sea when he dried it up before us until we had crossed over. He did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the LORD is powerful and so that you might always fear the LORD your God." - Josh 4:23-24
What will you tell your children?
The start of another leg of the journey
“Unbelief puts our circumstance between us
and God, but faith puts God between us and our
circumstances”
