As the owner of an advertising company Ned’s way of doing business is the way of the past but he has been unwilling to change. Now Ned’s about to meet his match when he and the family travel to California to visit their daughter Stephanie (Zoey Deutch) who attends Stanford for Christmas. Ned soon realizes that his sweet innocent daughter has been hiding a secret in the form of Laird Meyhew (James Franco) an older man whom she has not only been dating but cohabitating with. Laird too is a business man, but one who’s willing to take chances, one on the cutting edge of gaming and technology, a self-made multi-millionaire, eccentric and with a very foul mouth. Why Him is a rated R comedy, it contains sexual innuendo but mostly bad language. In the beginning, I found Why Him hard to enjoy especially when Laird was present espousing his use of foul language, but somewhere along the way I began to enjoy Why Him with all the zaniness of Ned’s and Laird’s worlds colliding together. Laird hiring a couple of famous rock music legends from my past to impress Ned and his family helped too. It’s worth the view if you’re willing to overlook the language. I wouldn’t take young children. After being "executed" for murder he finds himself in a facility owned by a company called Abstergo. Through a machine known as the Animus he can relive the memories of his ancestor. As Callum works through the memories of his ancestor he finds that he is caught up in an age old struggle between the Templars and the Assassins. Both groups are connected by the Apple of Eden which can change the world in drastically different ways, depending on which group is talking. Assassin's Creed is a video game turned movie. I think that if you are a fan of the games then you will probably be a fan of the movie. If you are well versed in the backstory that the games provided you are more vested in the movie. However, you don't need the games to understand and follow the movie. PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, thematic elements and brief strong language. There is much violence so parents should be aware of that before they bring smaller kids. Overall though I feel most people will either like, or just say "meh" to this film. I give it a 4 out of 5 tickets.
