Hi, I’m Donny the water droplet. Today I’m going to go visit my friends Oliver the ocean and Cory the cloud, and tell them about the Water Cycle.

Hey Oliver, haven’t seen you in a while, how are you?

I’m good Donny. What are you up to today?

Droplet – Well Oliver, I’m going to tell you a little about how you are a part of the Water Cycle.

Oliver – What’s the Water Cycle Donny? I’ve never heard of that before. And how am I a part of it?

Droplet – Good question Oliver! The water cycle is the journey I take as a water droplet. I go from the land to the sky and back again. You are a part of my journey because you collect me when I have fallen from the sky. After I fall from the sky I evaporate again up to my friend Cory the cloud and my journey continues. I best get off to Cory, he’s waiting on me.

Oliver – I’ll see you again soon then Donny, since your journey always continues.

Droplet – Howdy, Cory! I just evaporated here to you!

Cory – What did you say to me Donny?! Evaporate?! What is that!

Droplet – Oh Cory, let me tell you. I go through a journey. I evaporated here to you from my friend Oliver the ocean. Evaporation is when the heat from the sun lifts me up from a body of water and turns me into a gas. Then, a bunch of water vapor collects and we form a cloud, like you! Cory- I was never aware that I am a collection of water vapor…wow! Droplet – Yes, indeed you are! Guess what else happens while I’m up here visiting you? Cory- I give up.

Droplet – Condensation!

Cory – A WHAT!?

Droplet- Condensation, Cory! You have never heard of that either..?!

Cory- I have not. Let’s hear about “condemsation”…?

Droplet – no, no, no, its CONDENSATION!! Condensation is when a bunch of water vapor like myself cools down, because yes, I was pretty “hot” when I evaporated from the body of water, and I become a water droplet again.

Cory – So, let me get this straight. You got up into the sky because you evaporated, right? Droplet – Yes, which was when the heat from the sun lifted me up here!

Cory – Okay, right! And then you condensed into water vapor which made me, a cloud..?! Droplet – Yes, you are correct!Cory – And now you what?

Droplet – And now, in the next part of my journey I will precipitate! Cory – Uhhhh… precipitate? Okay, lets hear it. What is that?!Droplet – (Chuckles) Precipitation is when I fall from you, a cloud, and form back into a rain drop.

Or I could be a snowflake like the ones falling from you, now!Cory – Wow, so your not only a raindrop, you could be a snowflake too?!

Droplet – You’ve got it! The looks of me change…

Sometimes I look like this ( a water droplet ),

or I look like this ( a snowflake). Hail and sleet are other types of precipitation too.

Cory – I am so happy you came up to visit me Donny, I have learned so much about the Water Cycle today. Can we review real quick?

Droplet –learning about the water cycle can be a little confusing at first, but don’t worry, you will understand it in no time! So first I started off in a body of water which is the process called collection. Then I evaporated up to you, the cloud, from the heat of the sun where if you noticed, I turned into water vapor. Then from here, I precipitated back down to a body of water as a water droplet, a snowflake, hail, or sleet, depending on the temperature. The temperature changes what I will be. I repeat this journey over and over again, it is my way of life! Cory – Now I really understand the steps of the Water Cycle! Thank you Donny, I’ll see you again soon! Droplet – It was good to see you too Cory, remember, I’ll see you again when I evaporate up to you!
