HISTORY AND ORIGIN OF PIZZA

• The Pizza we know now is quite different from the Pizza when it was invented. The modern pizza was evolved from flatbread dishes in Naples, Italy in the 19th Century.

• Pizza, the word has its origins in the Latin word Pinsa which means flatbread.

• The first few popular ingredients for Pizza were tomatoes, cheese, herbs, olive oil etc.

• A famous episode made this flatbread even more popular. This incident involved the Margherita, the Queen of Italy who was served three pizza’s out of which she loved the last one resembling colors of the national flag and since then it was known as the Pizza Margherita.
