Mouth organ and the fucntion

1. Teeth

Usually Adult has 16 pairs of teeth that are useful to CHEW the food.

For example, we eat a chiken than it become smaller if we chew it…

You must remmember that a hard and dry food is

uneasy to be digested

THATS WHY THERE IS………..

2. Salivary Glands

This organ secretes saliva into mouth from a hole which is called DUCTS

-This makes your food (the pieces of chicken ) become wet and moist – So its easier to be digested

3. Tongue

A. This organ helps to mix the food’s particles, the saliva, and all the things inside the mouth

B. Also helps to swallow the food particles

C. The most important function is to help you taste the foods

How does Mouth help the digestion and absorption of food

Digestion :- Minimize the space that food claims; increase the surface-to-area ratio of the food.

- Moisten the food, so it can be compressed, lubricated, easier for the moving down of the alimentary canal afterwards.

- Break down starch into maltose (a simpler form of carbohydrates).

Absorption

- As the size of the food is minimized, as a result ...the rate of absorption in the intestine will increase

• Amylase is an enzyme that changes complex sugars (starches) into simple sugars during digestion.

• Amylase hydrolyzes starch, glycogen, and dextrin to form in all three instances glucose, maltose, and the limit-dextrins.

• Amylase is a digestive enzyme classified as a saccharidase (an enzyme that cleaves polysaccharides).

• It is mainly a constituent of pancreatic juice and saliva, needed for the breakdown of long-chain carbohydrates (such as starch) into smaller units.

• Amylase is secreted by the salivary glands and the pancreas that helps in the digestion of carbohydrates.

What is canker sores?

• Small sore on the inside of the lips or cheeks.• May develop singly.

• Appear in groups of fewer than five.• Outbreaks: Involving more than ten small sores at a time. Fever

and fatigue may accompany.

Page 8: Mouth and the Salivary Glands By : Duc Son Robert Tuan Wei Liang

Most canker sores heal on their own.

Special treatment is helpless.

Mild pain-killing and anti-inflammatory

ointments and mouthwashes provide

some relief for people with recurring

canker sores.

Treatment

Why can this happen….?

• The precise cause is unknown. Canker sores often result from: • oral irritation,• Injury,• viral infection,• acute emotional stress and allergies,• Dietary deficiencies: iron, vitamin B12 and folic acid.

Can We survive without mouth…?

Actually,… WE can still survive without our mouth and

Salivary glands

Impact for an Individual

_No place for food to enter_Food will not be softened by mucin_Food may not be broken into smaller pieces by teeth to increase the surface area to volume ratio for enzyme action_Starch will not be digested to maltose by an enzyme called salivary amylase in saliva_That may cause some stomach diseases because the food is not broken into small pieces

3) Impacts on society… ?

_We do not need to spend a lot of time for brushing

our teeth

_There won’t be any prizes for beauty queen who has

the shining smile

_That will raise up unemployment problems all over

the world.

_And finally, human being will have another kind

of…..kiss
