SAVE THE DATE!! Celebration of Rena McLean!!

This event is a celebration of the life, contributions, and heroism of Nursing Sister Lieutenant Rena McLean, a World War 1 nurse from Souris. It is to be held at the Matthew and McLean Historium on June 16 at 2:00. The Scotland based Clan Maclean Heritage Trust, Clan Maclean Atlantic Canada, and the Town of Souris are partnering to produce and display a storyboard which will be on permanent display in the Historium. A second smaller version will also be produced which will be available for schools, Legions, other museums on a "loan" basis. Entertainment and some refreshments to follow a talk on Rena's life, and the unveiling of the Storyboard. Descendants of the McLean family, - who were notable contributors to the history of Souris and the eastern end of the Island; and Katherine Dewar, the author of the book Those Splendid Girls, about WW 1 nurses from P.E.I. are also providing major assistance

with the event. The public is invited to attend.

Emergency Preparedness Week is May 6-12

Emergency Preparedness (EP) Week is May 6-12, 2018 and this year’s theme is “Be Emergency Ready”. Now is the time to start planning some EP Week activities in your community. Some activities could include; emergency preparedness trivia, an emergency preparedness poster contest for youth, a demonstration of how to prepare a 72 hour emergency kit at home, emergency preparedness facts communicated within your community newsletter, etc. The PEI Emergency Measures Organization can provide 72 hour Emergency Preparedness Guides so that your residents can be better prepared at home to make their own emergency kit and plan. Guides can also be downloaded from the website. Staff from PEI EMO are also available to visit your municipality and offer a 72 hour emergency preparedness session for a group of 12 or more residents.
