Mount Street Academy Reception Distance Learning Planning Week Beginning: 01/06/20 Parents/carers please note: These activities are not compulsory, they are suggestions and ideas to provide you with starting point should you wish to use them. You can do one, a few or all of them, it is entirely up to you and what works for your family at this time. All of these activities/ideas/challenges are based on the principles and different areas of the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage), so your child will be practising and developing skills in these areas. They are all activities/ideas that you can do at home, without the need for any ‘academic’ resources you would find in school – you can just use what you have in your home. We miss you and your children very much. So if you want to share any of what you are doing with us, related to these activities/ideas/challenges or anything else your child is doing at home, then please share with us on Tapestry (if you don’t have access to this, email [email protected] and mark for the attention of Mrs Oaten, and we will ensure a new link gets sent out to you as soon as we can). The Reception Team 😊

Physical - Fine motor/Writing Creative/Imagination/Art Small world

Can you make/draw your favourite character from a book, film, etc? Once you have made/drawn a character could you create a speech bubble with something they might say?

Use a cardboard box to create the setting for your play. You can draw whatever you like on the box, you can add or stick other materials on too. Can you make a story up while you are playing?

Construction Loose part play Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Can you use some cardboard/straws/foil or anything else you might find around the house to create a roller-coaster/water slide/marble run?

Can you use loose parts to make your name? If you feel like a challenge you could use the loose parts to write your full name or the names of people in your family.

Can you make paperchain dolls or a high five to remind us how important friendship is? Have a think about; What makes a good friend?

What did you make? What did you use to test your creation?

What you do that makes you a good friend? What your friends do that make them such good friends? You could make and decorate paperchain dolls with your ideas on. You could keep them to remind you how important it is to be a good friend or you could make one to give to a friend to say thank you for being a good friend.

Physical – gross motor Garden/investigation ideas Sink/Bath play

Can you make a hopscotch either in your garden or on

the pavement using chalk?

Could you grow something in your garden? You can use food scraps from your kitchen to grow more! You will need some small pots, soil, seeds of your choosing and water.

• First dry the seeds on some kitchen towel, this might take a little while.

• Then fill the pot with soil, but not all the way to the top, leave a little room.

• Make a well with your finger to drop the seed into (about 1 cm deep).

• Cover the seed with more soil.

• Water and place the seeds somewhere sunny (e.g. the windowsill).

• Wait patiently, hopefully it won’t take long for some shoots to sprout!

This process can be used with;

✓ tomatoes ✓ peppers ✓ garlic bulbs (you will only need one

segment) ✓ mangoes (you will need to open the husk

and plant the seed from inside this, the husk can be thrown away)

Other fruit and veg can be re-grown from scraps but require different processes.

Can you wash your toys? What do your toys need to be clean? Is cold water okay, or would warm soapy water be better? Do you have a sponge or a flannel you could use to clean them? Maybe you could choose some washable toys and play with them first, getting them a little bit mucky (washable paint, shaving foam or mud are good for this). Which toys were easiest to clean?

Communication and Speaking Music The World and People and Communities

Take a look through some family photos. Can you describe what you see? Have a chat together about the photos. Do you have a favourite? Some questions you could ask Who is in the photo? What are they doing? Where are they? When was the picture taken? Why are some people in this photo and not others? (e.g. before a sibling was born) How many people are in this photo?

Make your own wind chimes and listen to the different sound they make. You will need;

• A stick

• Some string

• Noisy objects e.g. beads, old cutlery, wooden spoons, tin cans, keys, seashells

Optional extras:

• Glue

• Paint

• Decoration such as glitter, sequins pompoms etc.

To make;

• Decorate your stick.

• Cut various lengths of string.

• Thread, glue or tie the noisy objects (depending on what you are using) to the string. Make sure you leave some room at the top to tie or glue this to the stick above. These are your chimes.

• Attach your chimes to the stick by tying them (make sure the knots are tight) or gluing them (you will need strong glue).

• Finally, you will need a piece of string longer than the stick to enable you to hang your windchime. Tie one end of the string to one end of the stick and the other end of the string to the other end of the stick (see picture below).

Where do we live? Have a go at drawing yourself, your house and your street. What do you like about where you live? Do your friends live nearby or somewhere different? If you are feeling confident you could have a go at drawing your city and the world we live in too! The pictures below are just for reference. Example below is American and a little more complex, no need to think about states or continents for this activity!
