Motorola demonstrates e-Inclusion leadership at European conference Motorola’s wireless access and quality products for all were featured prominently at Europe's biggest event for e-Inclusion – the European Ministerial e-Inclusion Conference in Vienna, Austria. The event focused on ways information and communication technology creates new opportunities to combat social exclusion, especially for the elderly, isolated geographic regions and people with disabilities. More than 1,200 participants and e-Inclusion leaders from industry, academia and volunteer organizations attended. Motorola demonstrated its solutions alongside other prominent high-technology industry players. Lizanne Scott, senior director, Global Government Affairs (Europe), served as a featured panelist during a discussion on “Investing: The Economics of e-Inclusion.” She spoke about Motorola’s goal to design quality products that are fun and easy for everyone to use. She also emphasized that broadband spectrum and funding are keys to ensuring all people – regardless of challenges or disabilities – can benefit fully from new and emerging information technologies. She urged governments to act now to ensure the benefits of spectrum reform are enjoyed widely in the future. Lizanne showcased two examples of assistive devices from Motorola partners. ClearSounds® CLA7 Hands-Free Neckloop enhances sound for hard-of-hearing individuals. MobileSpeak, a software package that can be downloaded onto a Motorola Q, allows persons with low or no vision to access content from the device.

Key accomplishments for 2008 can be viewed at the WBC website: wbc.mot.com. Looking ahead to 2009: Want to make a difference? The theme for the 2009 planning session was “Dream Big!” The day featured messages from Kathy Paladino, former WBC executive sponsor, Carey Dassatti, WBC HR sponsor, Jeanette Kilo-Smith, vice president, Global Inclusion, an inspiring panel of Motorola executives and a benchmark panel of executives from companies that have outstanding employee inclusion councils. The takeaways from these panels are useful for any inclusion council or executive team. Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Business Council Motorola received an award from The National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) as 2008 Corporation of the Year. The recognition underscored the dedication to and strong support for the NGLCC and the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) business community. As the fourth founding corporate partner of the NGLCC and one of the first NGLCC corporate partners to participate in the LGBT supplier diversity initiative, Motorola has been extremely active in supporting NGLCC initiatives and LGBT businesses.
