introduction

안녕하세요!

Page 4: Motivation Seoul

Dear ACI International,

From the moment I first heard that studying in Seoul was an option, I was determined to go there. I feel this is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I cannot let this slip trough my fingers. After Barbara mentioned South Korea during her lecture I did some research on what the Donguk University is like. This made me even more excited and it has gotten to a point where I cannot think of anything else anymore. This is what I have to do; this is what is go-ing to give me an unforgettable experience. I am certain that I am the right person to make this trip. My grades are good enough and I never had to do a resit. I am not joking when I say that I am writ-ing this with a pounding heart. The amount of adrenaline I have is insane, seriously. I already contacted an IEMES student (Joep van He-del) who is in Seoul now and he told me a lot about studying there.

I also decided to study the Korean culture a little. And by ‘study-ing the culture’, I mean listening to K-pop (Korean pop music) and watching Korean TV-shows such as Dream High and Secret Gar-den. I became slightly obsessed with this part of the world. I al-ready know how to say a few simple things in Korean. For example I can properly say ‘hello’, ‘goodbye’, ‘thank you’ and ‘I am sor-ry’. I also know how to agree or disagree with someone. Rather im-pressive, I know. Also, I have made some Korean friends already. The reason I’m writing my motivation letter in English is because the ‘I’ in IEMES is the reason I chose to go to Fontys ACI. Furthermore I want to prove that my vocabulary as well as my grammar is good enough to easily survive in Seoul. Nevertheless, I know there is still a lot for me to learn. This trip will not only give me a whole new per-spective on the world, it will also improve my English skills a lot.

The following subjects that the university offers struck my at-tention: International public relations, International busi-ness, persuasion & campaign, cross-cultural management, brand man-agement, marketing communication and Buddhism & human being. I also want to try and learn (the basics of) the Korean language.

All in all, going to Seoul will turn me into a more mature and ex-perienced person. This is what I am supposed to do, I am sure of it.

With warm regards,Lisa-Marie Kramer

persuasion

When I set my mind to something, I tend to become a little bit too obsessed with it. This minor is so im-portant to me, that I figured I should do everything I can to show that I want it enough.

I do know a lot about the culture in South Korea now. Also, I have met up with some Korean students to get to know them and their culture a lit-

tle bit better. Han-na Park an Young-eun Emma Shin became my friends and they have told me a lot about Seoul and the Dongguk University. The girls are so po-lite and were con-stantly complimenting me about my length and ‘big eyes’. A little bit awkward sometimes though. Nevertheless, I would love to spend some time with them in Seoul as well. Re-ally get to know their

daily routine and ha-bits. I already know some things about South Korea, but I want to experience the cul-ture. I want to find out how different or alike we really are.Furthermore, My room-mate Luuk van Meijel wants to do this minor as well. It would be nice to go with him. He has also met Hanna en Emma. And everybody knows how fond of wes-tern boys they are!
