MotionOne – Integrated automation from a single source
We live in an age when increasing potential productivity has become one of the most impor-
tant tasks in all sectors of industry. The associated increasingly stringent requirements for
precision and dynamics need to be continuously met, while also handling a growing range of
variants in production processes. There is an equally growing demand for modular machines
and systems, all of this against a background of meeting the latest safety requirements.
These trends mean that machine manufacturers are faced with the challenge of managing
increasing levels of complexity in their products. As a result, modular systems with standardized
interfaces are gaining in importance all the time. Here, the key challenge is in developing and
adapting the complex interfaces between the different components that make up the auto-
mation solution.
5 in 1 with MotionOne
Below, you can discover how the modular MotionOne automation system combines five
components into a unified overall solution. With MotionControl, Drives, HMI Panel, Safety
and User Tools, you have everything you need for your automation tasks. Find out for yourself
how easy a system with standardized interfaces can be to use.

Convenient touch-screen operator control units are at the heart of
MotionOne. An extensive range of display sizes provides the right
space for any application.
Stationary operator control units: A high quality design conceals
state-of-the-art display technology, with 8.4“ to 15“ touch-screens
and a host of useful features, such as 16 DIs on-board, optional RFID
technology and programmable function keys.
Mobile hand-held operator control units: As well as providing
machine operators with a greater action range, integrated emergency
stop and confirmation buttons support their safety. The keypad and
handwheel allow flexible interaction with the automation system.
Centralized data storage for the visualization application directly on
the controller makes the entire system easy to handle and provides
automatic scaling to the display size. Simultaneous operation of
stationary and mobile operator control units using different visuali-
zation applications ensures the maximum possible flexibility.
A modular expansion concept with numerous I/O modules pro-
vides the automation solution with the required connectivity. All
connections are made by plug-in terminals.
Digital inputs and outputs complying with IEC 61131-2 with
adjustable filter and 2 A rated output current, analog inputs with
14-bit resolution, temperature measuring modules for type J, K, L
and PT100 thermocouples and temperature compensation, as well
as encoder evaluation with latch inputs with response times of
20 µs are just some of the features.
To optimize the physical positioning of the expansion modules,
row-mounted or remote operation via bus coupler is possible.
The heartbeat of any automation solution is the controller. The
available scaleable processing power of 400 MHz Power PC to
1.1 GHz Atom in the ControlOne CPU provides the appropriate
power range for a huge variety of applications.
Despite their compact design, the basic features of the CPU modulesinclude interfaces such as Ethernet, USB, Compact Flash, Ether-
CAT and CANopen, as well as DVI graphics for a direct link to the
HMI Panel. Optional interface modules guarantee adaptability at
optimum cost and dimensions. Expansion modules can be atta-
ched directly to the CPU. Fanless operation allows you to forget
about specified maintenance intervals.

Creating visual displays is not so scary when you look at the system‘s
integrated ViEditor tool. With no specialist knowledge, you can
create attractive visualization solutions. A library of graphical ele-
ments and functions supports easy programming. The Java-based
programming environment offers even greater freedom.
Incorporating the operator control units within the controller confi-
guration and automatically linking the controller and the visualiza-
tion application in the MotionCenter configuration tool make the
system easier for the user to handle. Variables lists and scaling
functions for integration into the visualization are automatically
available.
Remote maintenance is just as easy. The data storage in the visua-
lization application on the controller allows rapid access using the
ViRemote maintenance tool.
In addition to the ServoOne and c-line Drives drive controller
series, the SMC safety controllers from LTi are also available as
system components that can be integrated into the automation
solution with no problems and without the need for specialist
knowledge.
Even getting started in the new world of automation is easy: Asetup program installs all necessary tools and device descriptions
for the system components. There is no need for the usual com-
plicated connection of components as the EtherCAT or CANopen
interfaces are configured automatically.
Of course, the drive system includes a wide range of motors, from
a standard servomotor through to direct and linear motors. Additi-
onal support for all standard sensor systems allows you to optimize
the project planning for your drive task.
Simple handling starts with installation and ends with support and
service – with LTi you can depend on a comprehensive package ofservices in these key areas.
The MotionCenter tool suite is available for machine automation.
MotionCenter combines all tasks in project planning, configurati-
on, IEC programming and creation of visualization applications.
It is based on the market standard CoDeSys to reduce orientation
time to a minimum.
As well as a sophisticated runtime system, standardized move-
ment functions are essential for motion solutions. The system
provides these in the form of PLCopen-based libraries, known as
MFBs - Motion Function Blocks.
Single- and multi-axis movement functions control the ServoOne
and c-line Drives drive controller ranges.
