Perinatal Services BC is grateful to be able to conduct its operations on the traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), səlil̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) First Nations.

Learning objectives

1. Identify why there is a need for cultural safety and trauma-informedcare for Indigenous women and families

2. Demonstrate how to provide culturally safe and trauma-informedcare by learning the principles necessary when caring for Indigenouswomen and families

3. Acquire knowledge on how Indigenous women and families areresilient and how they can use resiliency as a mechanism of self empowering the women in their care

Cultural Safety and Trauma-Informed Care with Indigenous Women & Families during the Perinatal Period

Purpose: Assist health care providers in providing culturally safe, trauma-informed care when caring for Indigenous patients during their perinatal period

Process: Initial DRAFT by LUCY, then input from other PSBC staff and reaching out to partners like FNHA and PHSA Indigenous Programs

Timeline: ?

Product: 1) Literature review of the history of Indigenous people of wellness/illness, weaving in cultural values practices and beliefs to create “Principles of caring for Indigenous women & families during the perinatal period. 2) Create 1-2 page statement on the principles of caring for Indigenous people during the perinatal period
