Mother

Boardsmotherboard is the central printed circuitboard (PCB) in many modern

computers and holds many of the crucialcomponents of the system, providingconnectors for other peripherals. Themotherboard is sometimes alternatively

known as the mainboard, systemboard, planar board or,on Apple computers, the logic board.

1. Based onArchitecture

Non-integrated motherboards don't have most of the maincomponents built into them, but they normally have moreexpansion slots to allow you to add your own. This can bepreferable for high performance PC users.

Integrated motherboards come with all the essentialcomponents built in to them. The major advantage of this

type of motherboard is that all major functions This meansthat all the functions that your pc needs are ready from ona single circuit board.

Non- IntegratedMotherboards

IntegratedMotherboards

The only drawback is that if one of the components breaksyou will have to replace the whole motherboard.

Integrated Processors

Having Processor which is attached at the time of Manufacturing, In this type motherboard cannotreplace the processor at the time of systemupgradation

Non-IntegratedProcessors

In this type, electronic components and parts arefitted individually and as needed. Having differenttypes of sockets for different modules. This allows forgreater customization and freedom in designing a PC.

AT Motherboards

ATXMotherboards

This was the first type of motherboard, which was 12inches wide and 11 inches long. This motherboardsuffered from a lot of problems, like cumbersome accessto components and overheating.

The ATX (Advanced Technology Extended) motherboard

has a length of 12 inches and a width of 7.5 inches. TheI/O ports and USB ports meant for the motherboard areintegrated directly in it. The bus speed in ATXmotherboard is 100 MHz. This board is mainly meant forIntel processors.

LGA

PGAIn pin grid array ,  the package is square or roughlysquare, and the pins are arranged in a regular arrayon the underside of the package. The pins are

commonly spaced 2.54 mm (0.1") apart.

land grid array is a type of surface-mount packaging, having the pins on the socket rather than theintegrated circuit.

Eg: Socket A

Eg: Socket 775
