RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CALL TO ACTION
We have officially finished the 2017-18 Faith Formation year and are excitedly looking forward to 2018-19! With student registrations and calendar planning already under-way, now is the time to start filling in some vacancies in our cate-chetical team. We are prayerfully asking God to speak to the hearts of our parish-ioners at St. Joseph, St. Mary and St. Stephen churches, that they may come forward and take on the role of a volunteer 1st or 4th
Grade Catechist or any one of the Catechist Aide or Adult Group Facilitator positions we have open. Is He speaking to you? Maybe you hear a whisper that faintly passes through. Perhaps it’s a loud and thunderous roar! Could He be reaching out to you through a friend? In whatever way the good Lord is approaching you, listen. Then contact Janice at 860-928-6535, ext 14, or email, [email protected], or come see me at St. Mary’s Parish Office Monday – Friday, 8:30-12:30 and let’s talk!
I’m really looking forward to hearing from YOU soon! Joy and Blessings! Janice Lindsay D.R.E. – St. Joseph, St. Mary, St. Stephen Parish Cluster

CIRCLE OF FUN
RAFFLE
Each year, the Circle of Fun Committee hopes to secure raffle items prior to our carnival at no cost to the parish. We are in the 47th year of wonderful parish event and it wouldn’t be possible without the help from our par-ish. Last year’s raffle was a huge success because of the generosity or our parishioners. If you wish to contribute, checks can be made out to St. Mary’s Circle of Fun and mailed to:

GOSPEL MEDITATION - June 17, 2018 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time
"This is how it is with the kingdom of God." What is a king-dom? Is it the brick and mortar that build up the castle? Is it the expanse of land a king can reasonably defend? Our no-tions of kingdoms may be romanticized in the modern era, but for the Israelites, a kingdom held deep historical meaning. Thousands of years before the birth of Christ, the Israelites had asked God for a king. After the reigns of David and Solo-mon, the united kingdom dissolved into factions, and the land was conquered by the Assyrians, Babylonians, and, finally, Romans. For the Israelites, a kingdom was something to build, both structurally and civilly. While this had ended in ruin for their ancestors, many of Jesus' contemporaries longed for the r e s t o r a t i o n o f a n e a r t h l y k i n g d o m . Jesus' words in today's Gospel are a radical departure from this perspective. He compares the Kingdom of God to a field, but it appears that the farmer has little to do with its progress. "The seed would sprout and grow, he knows not how. Of its own accord, the land yields fruit." Jesus introduces his follow-ers to a new sort of kingdom, a kingdom where God provides t h e g r o w t h . There is work to be done, of course. "When the grain is ripe, he wields the sickle at once, for the harvest has come." But for the Kingdom of God to flourish, there are certain things that are outside of our control. We sow seeds of kindness, justice, and integrity ? and then we must be patient. As shoots of faith appear, we nurture the growth with encouragement. As Chris-tians, our task is not to build the Kingdom of God under our power alone, but to trust in the life-giving movement of God.

The monthly Diocesan Pro-Life Mass will take place at The Cathedral of St. Patrick in Norwich on Saturday, July 7 at 8:30 A.M. Please join our cele-brant Rev. Ray Introvigne at Mass as we pray to end abortion and for the healing for those who have had an abortion. Following the Mass, the Rosary will be prayed.
LIVE THE LITURGY -
INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK
Jesus compares the Kingdom of God to a mustard seed, the tiniest of seeds. When planted, the tiny mustard seed grows into a tremendous tree with large branches. So, too, in each of our lives, small things can have profound ef-fects. God can use one of our more insignificant gestures to radically change another person's life. It may be the kindness of a smile, our willingness to accommodate someone, listening to someone's story, helping someone who is hurting, standing up for someone who is right, or complimenting someone on something they did. We all have God-given gifts and talents. Our task is to use them creatively, consistently, lovingly, and generously. We trust that God will take care of the rest.
