On the weekend of January 16th &

17th, we will be taking up the collec-

�on for Gospel of Life. The goal is to

collect funds so that the Diocese can

con�nue its mission to uphold the

right�to�life of all people from concep-

�on to natural death. Since 2011,

funds collected from the appeal have

been split and used for three different

purposes:�

�Parish respect life ac�vi�es:�1/3 of

the funds will remain with the parish

and are to be used for parish Respect

Life ac�vi�es.�

�Diocesan educa�onal projects:�1/3

of the funds will support the work of

the Office of Marriage and Respect

Life as they educate Catholics on pro�

life issues and mobilize them to take

ac�on in their community.�

�Virtue Media Adver�sing:�1/3 of the

funds will con�nue our Virtue media

adver�sing campaign. �

On Friday, January 22,

the Church in the United

States observes the annu-

al “Day of Prayer for the

Legal Protection of Un-

born Children.” This day

is set aside to pray for those who have been

wounded by the choice of abortion and ask for

healing to be granted to them, to make repara-

tion to God for the grave attacks against the dig-

nity of the human person, to beg Our Loving

Father to protect and preserve all human life

from conception to natural death and to im-

plore Him for the enactment of Godly laws for

our country creating a culture of life and over-

coming the culture of death.

On Friday, we will be holding Mass and

Adoration in the church.

ral e implorarle por la promulgación de leyes

piadosas para nuestro país creando una cultura

de vida y superando la cultura de la muerte.

INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK

When God Whispers

“You don’t need to shout. My hearing works just fine.”

Are you a parent that has used that one on your kids? I’m not sure

at what age they realize that the volume of their voice doesn’t

correlate to the likelihood of receiving a favorable reply — it

might be sometime in the teenage years, when the talking slows

down altogether.

But I’ve got to admit, it would be nice if God always gave us a

loud and dramatic sign when He wanted something — the boom-

ing voice and the torn-open heavens (“This is my beloved Son!”)

really get the message across. Sometimes I find myself envious

of the Apostles, who were able to witness such things in person.

The fact of the matter is, in the year 2021, God is more likely to

speak in a whisper than in a shout. The prophet Isaiah forewarns

that Christ himself will not be a noisemaker — for all his preach-

ing, he will not cry out or shout to bring forth justice to the na-

tions. His way is altogether different than that.

We are not the Apostles, and we do not have the privilege of see-

ing the Holy Spirit descend on Christ like a dove. But here’s the

good news: God doesn’t need to shout. Our spiritual hearing

works just fine. We just have to be listening.

Let’s wake up each morning ready to hear God’s whispers

throughout the day. Let’s make a conscious effort to invite those

whispers into our hearts, where they can become a catalyst for

grace in this world.

INSPIRACIÓN DE LA SEMAN

Cuando Dios Susurra

"No necesitas gritar. Mi audición funciona bien."

¿Eres un padre que ha utilizado esta frase con uno de tus hijos?

No estoy seguro de a qué edad se dan cuenta de que el volumen

de su voz no se correlaciona con la probabilidad de recibir una

respuesta favorable; puede ser en algún momento de la adoles-

cencia, cuando el habla se disminuye.

Pero debo admitir que sería bueno si Dios siempre nos diera una

señal fuerte y dramática cuando quiere algo: la voz retumbante y

los cielos abiertos (“¡Este es mi Hijo amado!”) Realmente trans-

miten el mensaje. A veces siento envidia de los Apóstoles, que

pudieron presenciar tales cosas en persona.

El hecho es que, en el año 2021, es más probable que Dios hable

en un susurro que en un grito. El profeta Isaías advierte que Cris-

to mismo no será un alborotador; en toda su predicación, no chil-

lará ni gritará para llevar justicia a las naciones. Su camino es

completamente diferente a eso.

Nosotros no somos los Apóstoles y no tenemos el privilegio de

ver al Espíritu Santo descender sobre Cristo como una paloma.

Pero esta es la buena noticia: Dios no necesita gritar. Nuestra au-

dición espiritual funciona bien. Solo tenemos que estar escu-

chando.

Despertemos cada mañana listos para escuchar los susurros de

Dios durante el día. Hagamos un esfuerzo consciente para invitar

esos susurros a nuestro corazón, donde puedan convertirse en

un catalizador de la gracia en este mundo.
