My Dear St. Bernadette Family, Go out and gather the people is Jesus’ final command to us. Gather them into the family they are. Heal the wounds of division, carry the weak, seek out the lost. This is the “Great Commission” given to the church.

We live this commission, Jesus tells us, when we teach, baptized and follow Him. We live this commission when we recognize the stranger and welcome them, notice the hungry and feed them, seek out the lost or imprisoned and visit them, or simply care about others and demonstrate that care in deeds of love.

We have all experienced being alone, rejected, abandoned or afraid at one time or another in our life. With these experiences, we can be more compassionate to our neighbor in their need. Every person has feelings and needs. The more we can tune into those of others, the better we can serve them, the more successful we can be at our primary work of gathering.

Let’s try to notice the people who pass by today. Those seated at the end of the pew, the new faces, those waiting for the bus and those getting a donut who really are seeking a new friend or at least someone to care.

With love, Fr. Tom

Saint Bernadette Catholic Parish, in the heart of Lakewood, Colorado, is an inclusive Christian

community, committed to the teaching of Jesus Christ. We are strengthened by the Word of

God and the Sacraments, guided by the Holy Spirit, and inspired by our patronesses the Blessed

Virgin Mary, Saint Bernadette Soubirous, and Saint Kateri Tekakwitha. We aspire to live our

faith through the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy and follow our Lord’s command to

call all to discipleship.

St. Bernadette Capital Campaign Prayer

Heavenly Father, we worship and adore you. We thank you for the generous gifts you have bestowed on us your

servants. You have poured out your love on St. Bernadette Parish for over 70 years and we in return offer the service

of our time, talent and treasure.

Lord Jesus, we seek to renew and beautify our church, a sanctuary for those who seek comfort, guidance and truth.

May this place of worship be a safe and holy refuge for those who seek You and your loving embrace.

Holy Spirit pour out your fire upon us as we work together to accomplish these goals you have set before us.

Give us strength, courage and clear vision as we use our gifts to serve You.

We ask all this through the intercession of our Patronesses, Mary, our Mother, St. Bernadette and St. Kateri.

AMEN.
